12 gram outrunner from GB components 5.375OZ of thrust

Here is a motor I made up to power a mini plane I am working on

GB 20mm cut down stator and can
21 turns of 27G wire WYE termination
GBV bearing and shaft
CF mounting tube
12 1x4x5 N35 magnets

Might try to shave some more weight with a CF shaft, driling the can, and plastic bearings

Spinning a Graupner Cam Slim 5x5 prop on 2S it generated 5 3/8 OZ of thrust

Pictures show it next to a 22.7mm motor I make for MAE

If you would make these available for sale, it would be sooooo cool.....

I probably will. Built as shown it will only cost a bit more than the 22.7 motors. There are extra steps such as cutting down the can, splitting the stator, and fitting the CF tube/bearing/stator together that take longer than the larger motor. Could also offer KIts with a tutorial for DIYers

How about 6 magnets and double the amount of turns?
Good idea, but may have to go to thinner wire and leave the can a bit taller as the windings are just about clearing it now.

Nice. What is the amp draw to go with that thrust?

I did not write it down, but I recall it was high 2's low 3's I want to be able to run on 250 2S packs. It's the 1st one I made up and I guessed at the winds. I will refine from here.

I am out of town for a few and will update upon my return

Is that the E-Tec 250's you are referring to? My guess is you will either need to go to a much milder wind or go with a larger and higher discharge capable cell. ET-250's really can't be used with amp draws much higher than 1.75A or the flight times get pretty short. You can find my ET-250 tests here.

Thanks Gordon,

Perhaps some 340's then?

Did you ever refine this motor? There are some 300mah with 20c disharge that are farely light weight. Around 20g for a 2s pack with wire.

I have installed it in my Stevens Aero Lil Squirt. I used a 3x3 prop on the same motor and am using the 250 battery for now. I can run the motor with the 5x5 on a 4502S Etec, but it has way to much power for the airframe. I'll post pics and perhaps a backyard video soon.

I also plan to make up 5 to 10 units over the weekend and try some different setups.

3x3 does not cut it. It was only drawing 1/2 to 3/4 amp.

I porpoised and broke it and have nothing between it and the 5x5. I'll put on the 5x5 and the 450 pack and give it a whirl tomorrow. Should be able to hover and get a torque roll or 2 )

Where did you get that cool 3X3 prop and spinner? I didn't see it on Hobby Lobby's website.
Thanks,
Matt

I got it at hobby lobby. It's in the non folding section. both are made by Graupner. I hae to drill out the spinner for the 3mm shaft on my lather. It comes 2.3mm.
