Cool

Align 35A "G" ESC on fire

I know some of you might not think this is cool but I did. After 5 min of hovering in the backyard the heli fell from about 3 ft up an landed OK. But then the ESC busted out in flames, wish I had my camera on hand. From the looks of it the FEST exploded and shorted out and the board caught fire. I don't know what happend, just hope it doesn't happen again. So it looks like I'm on my way to the LHS for a new ESC. Hope the motor still works . Anybody else have a fireball issue with the align ESC.

Motor: 430l 3550
esc: 35AG
pinion : 11t
and a park BEC 6V

I had a BRAND-NEW one go up in flames, not as bad as yours - but there was evidence of fire. At this point I have had it with Align controllers (three new ones failed) and CC (crappy heli programming) - I have no idea what to do now........

maybe we should try the Kontronic ESC, but I can't stomach 180 - 200$ price range......I'll give the 35A "X" and try and see what happens.

Just went and picked up an Align BL-35X, I have this one in another trex running an AON 3500 motor and no probs. so far. So I hope this one is trouble free and work good on the 430L motor. hopefully I just got a bad one or had to many crashes on the old one and it was a total fluke. We'll see.

I just had a CC 35 go up in a puff of smoke without getting it off the ground, replacement on back order for 2 weeks, so no joy there either.

I've gone through two Quarks -- they may be electronically good units, but mine had "mechanical" problems. The programming switch pushed off of both of them making it impossible to set them up. The second one would not work at all with a BEC.

$90 ESC units should be mechanically and electrically well built. Quarks aren't in my opinion.

Kontronic?

yeah, puff of smoke then "flame on". I think the FETS got really really hot then caught the FR4 on fire and the heatshrink material. The actual flames only lasted about 5 sec. or so, so fire damage was very minimal. then smell of burnt fiberglass, plastic and rubber was a bit strong. I just stood there mouth a gape wondering if the battery exploded, in which case run for the hose. Oh well.
