presumably yer talking about the Hiline grey plastic unit...unfortunately the center only accepts s400 diameter motors, however there are several motors that can fit from the Maxx cobalt to Astro, Aveox, Kontronik and Hp brushless units.. these can be fitted with one of Oliver Wemotec's reduced diameter Minifan 480 rotors for serious output in a very light(and very inexpensive) shroud assembly.
But no, there is no way to easily fit yer old 480 in there. You can get up to (maybe) 9oz thrust from a shunted and rebalanced 4.8v (stock type) motor though

Nope, it dont fit. Further more the cut down Midi fan rotor do not clear the EDF 400 shroud. It would have to be cut down even more. . I tried to go the same route as you and ended up with 2 EDF 400s and 2 cut down Mini fan 480 rigs with speed 480 bb motors and made shrouds up out of spray paint caps.

Looks like I'll have to go with Mini fans then. Thanks for your help.
