Land And Air Radios


mY QUESTION IS WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BEETWEN LAND AND AIR TRANSMITERS AND RECEIVERS Y IS IT THAT U CANT USE AN AIRCRAFT RECEIVER AND OR TRANSMITER FOR GROUND USE PLEASE HELP.

The following applies only if you are operating in the United States. If you are in some other country, let us know and someone else will help you.

The quick answer is that in the US, 72 mHz frequencies are used for aircraft and 75 mHz frequencies are used for surface (land, water) craft. So, in those two bands, you can not use an air transmitter for controlling a surface craft, and vice-versa. The 72 and 75 mHz frequencies are the most commonly used, but there are others - some used for both air and ground. For a complete list, see:

The whole idea behind it is that someone driving an RC car (you don't need a designated place to drive it) won't shoot down planes flying at a nearby model aircraft field. There's a minimum spacing requirement for model airfields. While model airplane operation is to great extent regulated, surface usage is not. Surface RC has less range than aircraft because of the ground and many ground objects (trees, buildings, hills, etc.) Also a surface RC model is less likely to get damaged or cause damage if it loses control compared to a RC model aircraft.
