Actually if I remember correctly my Avant (the first hollow moulded model in the world, 1983 I think by Jaro Muller) was 2,6kg and with lighter servos I could easily have taken out 200g more I think. The wing was pretty stiff so with a bit UMS rowing it would have been very stiff.

There is a gentleman, Mr Ralf Deker, in Germany who might have been among the first to fly and build moldies. His plane NO NAME is from this era, started 1982. He made it for WC F3B 1983 which he later won. The predecessor OPTIMA might also have mouldie, not sure here, which he used for WC 1979. The winning plane DASSEL (pilot Anton Wackerle) from WC1979 might also have been a mouldie...so Muller was not for sure the first one...
Avant, the copy of NO NAME, was if I remeber correctly later than a 1983...namly released just before 1987 (for F3BWC in Osnabruck) Speaking about Merlin, there was a plane named SPACER which might have been released before MERLIN and 1983... However for F3B use the AVANT and also JUVEL might have been the first ones on the open market. cheers Jonas Ekman ps, I have to thx Stefan Wahlberg for providing some (alot?) historical data... |
