Latest FPV vid from Jones. 11 minutes out of a nearly hour long flight.
Some low level flying and a booming thermal in the middle provided
some high altitude sight seeing.
(11 min 26 sec)

Never did get my eyes on any of the DSing gliders for more than a
couple seconds. Just couldn't get the EZG parked in one place long enough.
Was bumpier than I'd hoped for, but 20-25mph winds will do that.
I need to turn the gyro gain down if I'm going to fly this fast, to
cut the high speed wiggles.

I think that was your best yet Ian, WAY COOL! I think we should do an FPV chase plane while I Mnt bike that trail. I can scream on the down hills there and likely go the same speed as the plane with it real close! I took that same N. trail to the next converging ridge to the north last time I went. If we're lucky I'll take a BIG DIGGER for it, well if all are lucky but me, LOL!
You know, if mnt. Evans road is still open you may want to get up there! Very rouged and obscene cliffs were Deano and I flew, right out the van door too. Bring your bee/bevo for conditions testing! I think we flew the SW cirque, a gianormass solid granite bowl complete wth scary sky srcaper rock towers studding the rim.

New toy!
You'll have to bring it out to Platteville and show me how well it works!

But I did actually have a chance to fly a Bee for almost 5 minutes this past weekend. We followed that up with some pizza at Woodys for a grand time. It was good to get out there again.

The good news is that we now have a rentor lined up for Betsy's Mom's house and the time-consuming work there should end by the end of this month.

Ian what a brilliant video!!

While Karl is proposing ideas I have one also (not as athletic). Many decades ago I use to tether a small balsa chuck glider to my model and release it at altitude well out from the slope (usually in a good thermal) and then everyone would try to catch it. Watching your video got me thinking how great it would be to release and follow with that rig of yours, I think you'd sometimes need the help of a spotter (given your limited FOV) to get you on track trying to stay with it.

Kickin' Wicked Ian.

Have you ever encountered any range issues when you're out there having so much fun?

Ya, I did have some radio range issues when I flew nearly 2 miles to the south
using 72Mhz PCM Rx. Full story here.
https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=913079

I switched to 2.4Ghz right before Soar Utah so I wouldn't have to
worry about the overstuffed frequency board (5 people on my channel).
I've only flown it about a mile away so far with this radio gear. I have a
little parabolic reflector I can put onto the 2.4Ghz Tx antenna which is
supposed to give up to 9dB gain, so basically I fly around without it, and if
I start to see sluggishness or failsafe behavior, I can stick the reflector on,
point it toward the plane and be pretty confident that I can get it home
safely. If it really does give 9dB gain then I should be able to fly it over 2
miles pretty easily. Video will be a bit scratchy out that far though.

It's been a fun day at work! The entertainment value has been high. Sneaker net has been in effect most of the day.

On a sloping note: I'm amasing a bunch of stuff to sell off soon. Kits, planes, parts, rc junk, etc. It's time to have a garage sale of sorts. No room left in the shop for actual work. It's time to do something about it. I'll start posting lists and prices soon. I'll try and give the CO guys a heads up first.

Wow Ian! That was incredible. I can't believe how high you got and I loved the views toward Winter Park. I think I can see some ski runs.

Hi guys,

Anita and I will be travelling through Colorado the next 2 days or so. https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=915682

We are looking for places to fly and people to fly with.

We are planning on taking the interstate 70 into and out of Denver, but that can and will be changed to suit the flying!

SO, if anyone can come out and play, shoot me a PM or reply in our thread above.

Cheers,

Chris & Anita

Mt. Zion is only a couple miles north of I-70 right as you
roll into the metro area. Get a motel somewhere near Golden CO
and you'll be within an hour of all of our slopes.
Zion looks good for Thursday and Friday. If you're around Saturday,
Jones Pass is looking flyable. Will be an unforgettable adventure, regardless.

Or, our IT department's motto, "We're not here to give you what you need, we're here to tell you how to get along without it!".

I'll be eagerly awaiting your "for sale" list.

Ian- very nice footage and I especially like the opening seconds where you test the panning of the camera before launching.

Ian, I just got a chance to see your latest video. Very cool. Any idea what your highest altitude was? Jones Pass offers a great back drop for video!

I hope to get some time flying today at Zion.

Cheers!

Steve
