new project, must be lightweight. i need help in designing an edf

well my last 2 were just too heavy. the edf will be run off of my zagi equipment. it is a speed 400 motor with an 8 cell 9.6 volt battery. all the electrical, including battery motor servos reciever wires and esc, all weighs just around 9 ounces. that is wicked heavy as i understand...

so what is a lightweight building method?

does anyone have plans that might run off of my current electrical? i am willing to add another motor, run time isnt really vital its just got to run and fly. being my first custom built edf i just want it to fly, any experience will help for future designs.

so who wants to rescue me? i might order some carbonfiber cloth, i am experienced with composites, mostly fiberglass but i have done kevlar/aramid twice. i cant vacume bag, dont have the equipment, but i can pressure cure it. similar thing but only works with flat surfaces. will 2 layers of carbonfiber be light and strong enough? pressure curing will make it super flat and strong, but i think i should stick with 2 layers so i can sand it.

is this a good edf unit?

it says it fits the speed 400, 68 mm is 2.67 inches, or close to that.

that fan needs a 480 motor. For spped 400 use a Wattage Power Fan.

My question is, why keep starting a new thread just to say the same thing? Just curious .

threads get off topic so fast, or hijacked and such.

if the thread has 5 pages already, no one will attempt to read it all...

i found a wattage powerfan thing, but its got everything with it for 170 bux...

i cannot believe how much trouble im having finding one without the motors and such strapped to it. does anyone have a link to a site that carries just the ductted fan, no motor and such?

a "new threads per week" record ?

In each of the threads you have started, you have been offered the same ( good ) advice, from various people...

I told you in your last thread that a minifan needs a 480BB Race - or a similar sized brushless.
If you choose a larger fan - even only slightly larger - you will require more power, which will incur more wieght...

If you must use the gear you already have, you must use a Powerfan for the best chance of success.
( Or a 7 SF turbofan... )

im looking for a wattage powerfan, i cant find the fan unit without 100 bux of stuff strapped to it as a package. and even then i have only seen 1 that was just the edf unit without a plane strapped to it.

ok 2 questions, if i get the 480 motor do i need a new esc? and DOES ANYONE HAVE THE LINK TO THE WATTAGE POWERFAN EDF UNIT WITHOUT ALL THE BRUSHLESS STUFF STRAPPED TO IT? im sorry about the caps but i really cannot find one...

well, the second page's order screen...definately not in english. i speak some spanish...

39 euros (that was eruos right?) is approx what in us $'s?

and again, will a 480 motor run off of my esc for my 400? if not this is a lost cause, money is tight...

when it say up to 20 ounces, does that mean motor included (im sure it does but i do have to check...). my battery is an 8 cell 9.6 volt, should work with these correct?

i think my esc is 20 amp, it says 20 on it but isnt labeled clearly...

Please update your profile to show where you live (or at least the country)

I think that you'd get a better response if you updated your profilke to inlcude at least the country you're living in. I was about to suggest talking to Hobby People, but they're in California and you appear (cannot confirm) to be somwhere on the eastern side of the Atlantic.

thread hijacking !?!

Yeah - I was also wondering what your location was...?

I have two SF Turbofans here.

Each will put out over 12ounces of static thrust with a 6v speed400 motor running off an 8-cell Kan1050-type battery pack at around only 8A.

Read about them at the bottom of this page...

They are similar to the Powerfan, are the same size, and come with no motor but with a neat inlet ring - for only 7.
What's that ? $11 + shipping ?

They will accept a speed400, a 480BBRace, or even 400-sized brushless.

No I do not have a vested interest - I just know a bargain when I see one !

*edit* For someone on a "tight budget" - 7 = US$12.22 at todays prices ! *edit*
