6MM F-5 finished in black

Thought you all might like to see an F-5 in black. It began life as a 6MM kit. I think I will cover the next one in Ultracote. A lot of time in the paint.

I used H2O acrylic latex from K-Mart, and a lot of sanding, both wet and dry. The top has about 8 coats (I think I lost count) and the bottom has 3. I think I could have covered it in about 5% of the time.

Well, I'm in touch with the pilot I built this for. While he is pleased with the plane overall, unfortunately, the paint didn't look this good when it got to Las Vegas. It now looks like it was 'vacuformed' onto the surface and sucked into the grain of the foam. This in spite of, cleaning the foam, sanding, filling, priming, wet sanding in between the first four coats, and etching the last four for adheasion. The paint had been done for several days before I shipped it.

There was at least a 65 deg. swing from Ohio to destination, along with quite a swing in humidity.

I'm going to try and simulate something like that with scrap and a freezer. Any ideas on how this temp swing might effect acrylic latex from some of you painting experts out there? I want to avoid this in the future. It has really tarnished an otherwise good project for me.
