sparks: What are the current prices for the plastic parts for the MD-80? Both of your airplanes are fantastic.

I have the plastic parts available, they are listed below

Two dummy motors / cowls.
each motor is made from four piecies.
An upper and lower cowl half.
An air inlet or nose piece.
And an removeable exhust nozzle Or reverser buckets.
There are two detail piecies that attach to the nozzle to simulate the reverser actuators.

Two pilot figures

One cockpit face, mask, windows. . .
it's a one piece clear plastic part that attaches to the fuselage so your foam model can have windows.

Six dummy flap hinge fairings.
Tease parts simply bond to the bottom of the wing to simulate the fairings.

The model could be made without the plastic parts but the engines will be a little heavier if you made them with foam and glassed them, the windows could be painted on but it really does not look as good and getting the shape right is a real chore.

plastic parts . . . . . .$45 plus shipping $5

drop me an E-mail for information about shiping options for the instructions and plans.

Best

The article is out this month in Flying Models Magazine.
I had the chance to learn something else about the model.
She wouldn't takeoff from the thick grass at the BEST event this year. Tres Wright had to run along behind it and push to get her up. I pushed the battery back to the rear limit and I was able to rotate sooner getting the small wheels out of the grass sooner. The rest of the weekend went with out any need for assistance.

The following form letter covers the MD -80
featured in Flying models Magazine November 2006.
As questions are asked I've added them to the Q&A section of the letter below.
Please read on for information about this design.
Up dated 11/27/06.

Plans. the plans can be bought through Carsons Publications.
http://www.flying-models.com/
Go to the plans directory and search Douglas MD-80
It will take you straight to the ordering information.
Or you can call Toll free 888- 526-5365
$21 for the plans At 3 foot X 10 foot printed sheet it's not a bad deal.

Check or money order will be fine
If you want to use Pay pal the account is parkflyerplastics@att.net
Please be sure to make a note of the plane that you want.
I have several designs and I want you to get what you want.

How long does it take to build the model?
I finished the second model in 70 hours. This includes cutting out all the parts and taking the shots and making notes for the article. If you have to clear your work site after a building add more time.

Motors?
I used two Mega 16/15/5's and a 7X5 prop.

Batteries?
I have only flown the model on 3 cell Lipoly packs ( 2, three cell 2100 thunder power)
There is plenty of room in the model to use any pack you want.
I have upgraded to one Tianic 3650 pack and have plenty of flying time now.

ARF's and Kit's
This is a scratch builders project. There are no ARF kits available. This is as close to a kit as I plan to get. Even at that, calling this a kit is a stretch. Kit's have step by step instructions.

How much would it cost for you to build me one.
Custom model builders that I know charge $17 per hour to build a model.
It comes to $1,190 plus parts and shipping. It might not seem fair but most custom builders are at an advanced age and make more than that at their jobs. It's sad but true, Time is money.

Third one off the line

Mark Roth went all out with the MD-80.
Flaps, retracts, and EDF.
He has doubled the total weight but I'll bet it will fly just fine considering my 757 was based on this model and it weighs around 7 pounds.
He told me he is looking forward to building another one because things he would have done different with his modifications.

Congratulations Mark, good luck with the maiden.
