9v motor 11v lipo will it work?

I have a 600 speed motor runing through a 40A controler at the moment is powerd by a 2 cell pipo battery. I would like to go to a 3 cell 11v lipo and run it at half power am I able to do this without cooking the motor? When i use my NMH pack which has 8.6v I get a much better climb I want a similar climb with the iopoly pack
Thanks for the advise

One of our expert members, Vintage, has done a lot of research on this subject. He is of the opinion that by selecting the correct prop to prevent over amping the motor at 11v, brushed "can" motors will do quite well. Check out his discussion using the following link.

What motor also...the 7.2v speed 600 are perfectly fine on 3s LIPO..so anything with a softer wind will be as well.

Prop the 7.2v down to 20A or so and it will be fine. The higher voltage motors have more resistance, and can't take as much current though.

4s LIPO is a better bet for those.

Thanks for the great help the motor came with the Albatros ( green Air ) so it is probably only a cheap 600 speed type motor. I think I will get a gropnerr Speed next time. The battery is a 1200mah battery
Thanks Vintage 1 i am now reading your thread and are growing wiser ( hopefully ) buy the minute

well if you have a gearbox, it will be fine. If its on a direct drive folder it won;t be - you need to come down to a 7" folder or less - even a 6" - and if its a large plane it won't fly particularly well.

The cheapo cans in kits are pertty much the same motor as a graupner speed 600 7.2v mostly anyway. The extra cost is the ost of the label and the box...

Are you really out there in the GABBA?

Yes Coober Pedy is in the North of South Australia half way between Alice Springs the centre of Australia and Adelaide on the south coast. About 900 km away. We have great open spaces ang great thermal country. I used to fly full size sailplanes when I lived in allice Springs guys would come out from Germany with there factory specialised gliders to set world records from there. Now I am content to fly RC sailplanes still good fun. If you are interested in seeing a bit about Coober Pedy you may see more agout Coober on my web desertfireopal.com go to the Coober Pedy life

The weather is starting to cool to about 30 c but during the peak Jan begining feb we had 3 weeks over 40C. One day me and a mate were out flying our gliders great thermals that day had a few flights over 40 min specking out and then doing aeros until it got comfortable to see again and then climbong up again. That night saw the weather and the tenp was 46 c. Nowonder our wives said we were crazy.
