Mac users: You can now play Windows Media Files through Quicktime

Sorry that this is rather off topic, but we have a mixture of windows and mac users here, and people post a lot of sloping videos, so that's my connection and I'm stickin' with it!

Microsoft has ended development of Windows Media Player for Mac (good riddance?), but is now offering a free plugin that will allow you to finally play WMF directly in your Quicktime player. There are other players that will allow you to play Windows Media, but it's nice to be able to play it all straight through a single player.

P-shew! Why didn't someone do that YEARS ago?

It's weird, but now I can jump right to anywhere in the vid and it just plays, instead of giving me sound only for 15 seconds before the vid shows up. I can fast forward now. I can almost go frame-by-frame and in reverse. So not quite as smooth as a native QT file, but all the fun features I like.

Maybe the streaming content will play better too, and I'll be able to pause it while my slow connection finishes loading it, instead of having to watch it blow chunks at me.

Thank you Bill, for dropping Mac support of your product!

Now if only he'd drop Windows support of his products, we'd all be better off

Finally a fix for the broken WM player for OS 10. Seems to working good so far.
None of the videos stop about half way like most WMV files do.

I only keep my XP box around for encoding WMV files and playing rapsody radio. thats about all its good for.......
