New one from extreme flight looks pretty sweet! I wish someone would come out with a yak 54 this size! Regardless this is now on my wish list!!!

Here are the specs:

Wingspan: 45 inches

Length: 42.5 inches

Wing Area: 400 sq. inches

Weight: 30-33 oz.

Go here for some more info and the video!

The hyperion yak 54 model is in the 50" range I believe. Basically a .40 sized electric.

There is already a thread on the EF 300E. Take a look - it's here somewhere and there are several excited people already, including me!

It is marketed as a .10 sized electric by the manufacturer.

you are referencing the yak 55...there is a larger 54 model that is in the works as well.

Is the 55 an older design than the 54? And why don't you see many of them in full scale competition? You see many more Sukhois.

I hesitate to post this as this thread is about the Extreme Extra 300, but this might clarify some of the misconceptions about full-scale competition...The full-scale competition world really has no relation to how well a model flies - as most models have been significantly altered from scale to improve their flight performance.

From a full-scale perspective, the Sukhoi and Cap 232 have dominated World competition for the last 15-20 years. No other airplane even comes close in number of competition wins. The Edge, recently, has shown very well in the hands of Kirby Chambliss. The Extras were slightly successful early on, but haven't been for many years. The Yak 55 is an older design (1980's), is all metal and heavy, but is still very successful at the Advanced level (Unlimited is the highest). The Yak 54 has not been successful at any level of International competition. In fact, to the best of my knowledge there were only 12 built, and several of those have been destroyed in accidents. That isn't to say that the airplane isn't a good airplane, is just isn't the mount of choice for top level pilots.

I have flown and competed in both the Sukhoi and the Yak 55M (not SP) and they are both really nice airplanes. Very similar in feel. The Sukhoi is lighter and ours has more HP than the Yak 55M, so it does have more performance. It is also a cleaner design using a composite wing rather than aluminum with big rivets, so that only adds to its performance. I would guess that the 100% price difference between the Sukhoi and Yak equates to a 15-20% difference in performance.

As far as the Yakk 55 "SP" that is an entirely different animal. It is a highly modified Yak, done not by the Yak factory, but by a third party to attempt to make it competitive at the world level in Unlimited. To the best of my knowledge, it hasn't been successful.

It's in this 3D flying thread

Sukhoi, the SP sounds like a similar situation with the Extra 330L - nothing to do with Extra, just a 300L with a higher HP engine...

Ok By fay the plane looks GREAT, but I have to asked why is the viedo in fast forward. Well I hope it is because if you have to fly it that fast Man it's not going to be any fun. The few moves they do show in slow flight, they don't show long enough to know how well the plane will do. I would like to get one but I think I will wait untill I see it flying a little slower(if it will) before I spend $500 for the complete deal.
