How much have you spent on your Trex?

I've been looking at the Trex for a while now. I'm considering buying it, but it seems kind of guess-ish how much the total cost would come out to be. I do not have any helicopter stuff. No transmitter, no radio, nothing..

So I was wondering how much, estimate (or from experience) it would cost to have a reasonably good Trex? I'm not planning on doing any 3d yet, but I don't want to buy a newbie helicopter, and then have to buy another one. (Although I can see the logic -- crashing a trex would eventually cost as much as a newbie heli).

So, how much have you all spent on your Trex, and how much do you think it would cost to buy one if you had no helicopter gear?

trex as a first chopper

I would have to say that your first heli should be a digital one. Get a simulator first. Then your rex will be a freshy when you can actually use it. Even when you can fly, you will keep going back to it to try more and more. On top of that, the TRex is a bit touchy to learn on, though you can tame it down quite a bit. Answer to your question, your looking at about a thousand dollars if you need a tx, charger, batts, gyro, motor, esc, etc, etc. Good luck

NEVER add up the cost of heli's. Standard answer for your wife is "It cost about 150 dollars".

I don't want to know how much I spend on micro helis. I use to keep track of money I put into nitro birds over the last 20 years but it hit 100K and I stopped. Thankfully some of that was recovered when I started selling/building for other people. These micros are worse, you can fit so many of them in such a small space.

Is it safe to just say "Twice what you're planning on spending?"

heh... You wanted a number.. so I'll throw one together off the top of my head...

SE kit w/ motor $489
7CHP $200ish
rx $70ish
servos $18 x 3
digi tail servo $80ish
gy401 $135
parkbec $20
TP-2100-3s $70 x 2
trition w/ power supply $160

So there's $1400? In the process of ordering some spare parts, gonna be another $300. And don't forget tools, glues, lubes, soldering iron, yadda yadda yadda...

Man I shouldn't have done that. It's an awesome heli though!

It will cost ~$600 for a complete T-Rex setup..

Its the ~$25 visits to the LHS that start adding up ... I think i've made 3 T-Rex part runs this week

The cost of TREX therapy is about equal to 3 visits to the phycologist's office, and much more theraputic. It will make you forget whaterver else might be wrong with you.

Besides that, I've found that if you have to ask how much it costs, well -- you've already made the decision to do it, and are just looking for rationalization for the decision. Forget the cost and just go do it.

Its good for you.

Ain't broke? Then fix it!
It's best to listen to Miranda and exercise the 5th on that topic...

Well I finally made the plunge too and am just about finished w/ my Trex Heli. Found this web page on Trex tuning here , which helped a ton when I had to make choices. The other thing that helped was just reading posts here at RCG (Thanks Everyone).

Totals so far:

Futaba 9C = $330 (Never have to buy again )
450XL HDE Kit = $160
(3) HS-55 = $48
(1) HS-56 = $25
GY401 = $130
Align Motor and ESC = $100
Electron6 RX and Xtal = $60
Apex MK3 GenII 2100 = $50
TP Charger and Balancer = $100
Power Supply = $40

Total = Who cares when it is this fun .

I've been flying for ~18 months and have 2 Trex 450Xes (1 fully blinged, the other basically stock), 1 3D Pro and a Raptor 30 V1 - I stopped adding it up when I got to $7000. About $3500 was for accessories, tools and other goodies. I'm satisfied that I getting good value. I believe in buying quality components, accessories and tools. With the initial investment out of the way, my ongoing costs are very reasonable. I heard a stat yesterday - smoking costs ~$2500-$3000 per year on average; I don't smoke.
