Great Planes C-50 ESC burns to a crisp

I landed my Crazee with an Endo and Great Planes 50A Esc. Before I got to it a fellow flyer asked me a question and we started talking and I inadvertently pushed the throttle on a bit and didn't notice.

I know this was carelessness, but I was nonetheless surprised to find my ESC completely fried black.

The specs say there is :

"Built-in thermal shutdown protection turns the motor off if the
transistors overheat"

"Fused overload protection"

Shoudn't one of these prevented this toasting. Or do they do something else?

Burned out, Balin
