Interesting X-35B STOVL test video

There is a new video at the LM website showing hover pit testing of the X-35B. Lots of interesting stuff to watch as the nozzle and lift fan work.

"X-35B Tests Lift Fan Propulsion System"

Hover pit tests are complete and LM plans to go fly STOVL in June.

Well, I wouldn't be a good partisan if I didn't point out that the Boeing X-32B has already FLOWN STOVL transitions. See news and video here:

Yep, saw the Boeing release, which was also mentioned here in a recent post. Looking forward to seeing the X-32B ease into a hover and do the true vertical stuff.

LM is working hard to make this happen as well and I thought some of you guys might like to see our progress.

It's really cool to see these two planes take shape and perform. I am personally fond of the X-35B's looks. I think it would make quite an attractive EDF model.

I didn't see the X-32B flight, but I sure heard it! Noisy sum-of-a-gun!
And it took off west so it had to fly (or whatever it does) over populated land..
LM takes off to the east, over desert.
(About the only common-sense thing they do )

Nice link Thomas B!

Thanks. I really liked the X-35C video but the B model was pretty interesting too. I just wish they'd painted it with some other color scheme. Funny how these two aircraft are getting very little media attention.

Thanks, Kevin. I was just at the big Navy League Expo in DC a week ago, where we were showing an expanded version of the videos on the web site. The X-35C was heavily shown, doing all the FCLP approaches at Pax River plus some air to air stuff.

I was in my anal-retenative modeler mode and asked the program guys why they painted the X-35C Navy bird the same as the X-32A and B. (Instead of the dark grey on top, the Navy bird is supposed to be painted 36320 upper and 36375 lower, more or less like a Hornet.)
They didn't know and asked me why I cared how the X version was painted... I like the black tails, though!
