Changing the electronics in a Gen.1 xmod

Hi guys, Im quite experienced in R/C 1/10 on-road class but recently my brother gave me his 2 xmods Gen1 cars, and I want to replace the stock transmitter and electronics on board with more appropriate ones. And since Im new in xmods, I might have few topics to rise.

If the space its limited I want to save as much space as I can, therefore I was thinking to use a 2 in 1 unit receiver + speed control but I dont know the brand, and I never used such unit. Any of you used such component? If so, could you give me your feedback, please !

Here its the unit :

Receiver Plus Speed Controller Two In One R/C System -27AM

*Operating voltage: 6V-9.6V (5-8 Cells)
*Maximum pulse current: 160A (Forward)
*Maximum continuous current: 75A (Forward)
*Int. resistance ohms: 0.008x2
*weight: 50g
*Dimensions: 59x31x18.5(mm)

*Type: Single Conversion AM
*IF: 455kc

*Consists of receiver and speed controller
*Forward and reverse
*Neutral & full power adjustment
*Battey elimination circuitry
*Built-in pulse checker
*Mos fet circuit

What about servos: what should I choose: Hitec HS 50 ( well-known servo, but a bit to big for such scale, although many of you are using it ) or less known brands for me at least servos ( but smaller size ), like :

Blue Bird 3g Ultra Micro Servo

Weight: 3.4g / 0.13oz no wire
Size(mm): 19 x 7.5 x 15.5 mm / Size ( inch ): 0.75 x 0.29 x 0.61 inch
Speed: 0.11sec / 60 deg at 4.8V
Torque: 0.7kg/cm , 11 oz/in at 4.8V
Motor type: coreless motor!!!
Ball bearing: none

Or: Saturn S44D Electron Digital

Torque (Kg/cm) 1.0 (4.8v) 1.25 (6.0v)
Speed0.12s/60deg (4.8V) 1.25s/60deg (6.0V)
Weight: 4.4g
Size: 19x7.5x15.7mm

Dimensions: 20x8x17.6 mm
Mass/weight: 5.50 pond/g
Operating voltage: 4.8 Volts
Nominal voltage: 4.80 Volts
Torque: 9.00 Ncm
Transit speed: 0.10 Sec/45

Hello Red Team,
There is a forum. that discuses these issues adnausium. I beleive you will find that it isnt cost effective at all to do the modifications you are considering. Now if you are doing it just for the love of the challange you might consider picking up a miniZ MR01 on Ebay. They have been replaced by the 02 and they go for about 40 bucks with transmitter and reciever. Anotehr source for the x mods is There is another 1/28 car out ther the I waver that also has a board that would fit. Problem is the Mini Z are so good that there is no reason other than cost to go withthe other competitors. Unless you are just driven to take an inferior product and modify it to beat the better one. I have both and the Mini Z's handle like butter. Both designs have gobs of mod parts though and they are a blast to drive. Even better you can do it inside the house...all year
