Question

Can anyone tell me what kind of engine this is?

I have a plane that I got from an estate sale and I don't know what kind of engine this is ? Does anyone have any ideals? It has an emblem cast into the side that looks like either HP or PH they are overlaid on each other.

Thanks!

And You're Not
It is an HP. Hirtenberger. They are presently made and sold by MECOA, www.mecoa.com but their website appears to be down.

Its an HP40.

I haven't seen an exhaust like that since the 70s, you can't call it a muffler because it doesn’t muffle.

Seriously though when I ran my HP40 with one of those exhausts even in those somewhat less noise conscious days, it was frighteningly loud.

I still have one of those "mufflers", I think it fits a K&B 40..

Thanks Guys!

I was lost and had no Ideal what it was. This plane is going up on ebay in a week or so. It came from an estate sale with a bunch of sailplanes and plans that I have on ebay. You wouldn't know what pattern plane this would be would you? The paint is chipping off of the front of it and it will need to be repainted.

Thanks

I built a similar airplane from a Joe Bridi kit. Fine flyer. Learned to do decent slow rolls with it.

Dig the old Kraft wheels.

That thing oozes nostalgia.

I think it has to be from the 70's but still not sure. It is kind of cool looking but the paint is flaking off of the front arount the cockpit. I measured it before I went ahead and packed it up last night and The wing span is:58" and the length is 50". The weight is 5.7 pound with out servos, reciever or battery.

Looks like a Joe Bridi "Dirty Birdi 40"....from the late 70's

Yes..it oozes nostalgia....as does the Semco "flo-thru" muffler.

The engine...a Austrian Made HP Gold Cup (not to be confused with HB) were pretty slick items in the day. The German made HBs were too!

Real cool.
