Pics Of Initial U-Boat Trimming

This forum is pretty dead so hope you dont mind some more pics.I needed to retrim the boat after removing the torpedo system from the front and also wanted the boat to sit lower in the water than it was. This involves a trial and error method of adding, removing, moving weight and flotation around. Its relationsship to the waterline is also important because the boats CG changes as the boat submerges. This beast weights in at around 50 pounds wet so Im worn slap out after lifting her in and out the pool a few dozen times. To give you an idea of its size, the pool is 9 foot from wall to wall. This is the boat with ballast tank dry.

Is this from a kit, or is it custom made? Incredible detail!

Unlike most other r/c,when it comes to subs there are very few complete kits. You try and gather up what you can and scratch build and fabricate the rest. The hull is a now out of buisness 32nd parallel. Its basically a smooth hull that requires alot of work sanding and cutting holes. The deck is a custom brass deck from I beleive Jeff Larue. Not only does it look better but also keeps you from cutting hundred of deck slots. The tower is scratch built from fiberglass along with the railings, floor and most antenna and periscopes. The WTC housing the electronics is a D&E 3.5 modified for 2 motors and alot of the electric gizmos come from Subtech. The guy who built it is one of the best and builds only WW2 German subs. He spent 9 months to complete it. I got her from a retired Naval Officer who had it built for him. He only ran it a few times. The size and weight was just too much for him to manage.

Beautiful sub! Does it have compressed air tanks to blow the ballest tanks? Or do you do that manually... That is a monster if the pool is 9' across! ENJOY!

Using a switch on the radio, you allow as much water to enter the ballast tank until the desired depth is achieved. To evacuate the tank, a brass tank filled with Super Duster or simular, displaces the water out the bottom. A must have saftey feature is a device "subsafe" which in the event of signal loss after a user defined time period has been preset, blows the tank. The brass tank is filled with the same that you can find at electronics stores which is used to blow off electronics or computers. The trick is that you hold the can upside down when filling the tank with the liquid. The liguid has no pressure in that state.

I grew up on the lake and made money as a teen travelling around lake to lake scuba diving. I cleaned the bottoms of boats, fixed docks and was paid to find lost watches, props, lures ect. Theres really not much to see other than beer cans, tires, stumps and just about anything else you can imagine.
