I crashed mine the day I got it (Christmas day), and ordered parts on December 27th when the hobby shop opened.
Thank goodness I've got the mechanical creativity of an engineer, because my temporary repair seems to be stronger than the ball joint system ever was. It survived another crash which sent the horizontal stabiliser and tail rotor assembly flying all over the park, so I took a little stiff plastic and made a new one. (I found the horizontal stabiliser the next week when flying my GWS Corsair, it was at least 50 yards away from the crash site!). After those two mishaps, I decided to take a different approach. I found that when I first spooled up, my adrenaline was pumping way too much for fine muscle control. I decided to disconnect the battery and calm down. After five minutes, I was still anxious, but I found that small stick movements were way easier. I haven't crashed it since, five battery packs later. For those of you that are saying parts are too hard to get, those parts that I ordered on December 27th still aren't all here yet. Hope this helps your outlook! |

Just for anyone who is interested
Now as some of you may I have read I have a 22E and have crashed it several times already and even though the parts are cheap when you have to buy them by the dozen the price soon builds up however I have learnt some valuable lessons 1) check the servos are doing what they are supposed to, disconnect your motors and rev the throttle and see if all three move up smoothly , 2) balance it the best you can , so all the blades are dead flat , i use 4 vhs tapes balanced around the end of my blades with flat lines drwan on the tapes with 2 at the same height for the blades and 2 lines for the smaller blades so i can line them all up at the same height and flat 3) wait for a calm day, no wait for a dead calm day , no fly it in a warehouse 4) if you don’t have access to a large empty warehouse, find some where to fly with a soft landing , i.e. long grass 5) in the middle of that long grass have a reasonably large flat smooth surface to take of from so as the heli can slide so as you may balance it some more, add a smooth round ball to the tail bar that hold it of the ground so it may slip more easily 6) when it looks like your going to crash that second before you hit the ground let your throttle of, not in mid air! 7) if you break a part (when) try and fix it first I have found that most parts can easily be fixed by using , a thin piece of cotton fibre and super glue a)super glue the part b)wrap a small piece of fabric around the part c)cover the fabric in super glue d)it should set hard and hold well, so far my swash plate ,blades and blade clamps are all held together in this manner 3) i have also found you can drill a very small hole through ball joints and add a very small nail with glue on to add extra support (see pic) well that's my views, ideas opinions etc I’m sure other will have other ideas |

Wow !!! Who did you order them from ? That's ridiculas !!! It sure will be nice when Tower finally has all the parts for these in place. Then we can get anything we want in a couple of days. I just put my swashplate links back to the center holes of the servo arms, so im sure gunna need those small inputs for sure. I hope you get your parts soon, that just isn't fair... Dennis

Petsyb, that's pretty ingenious the way you have been fixin stuff. Where do ya get that carbon fiber cloth ? My artificial leg is made with it, and I know that it is pretty tough stuff. Im impressed !!! Dennis

Well folks, my VNR3D looks like new again !!! All that's left is to check the blade tracking, then it's back to more practice !!! Oh, and reinstall the training set... can't forget that !!! No more Heli Rocket Launches for me either, that really sucked !!! Everything is nice and tight now, except for about a 1/64" freeplay between the ends of the seesaw and the sides of the control tray. The exploded view doesn't show any little washers in there, but I just might have to upgrade that before I get back into action. Everything works so smoothly and nice, and there is no play anywhere but there. I did move my swashplate links back to the center holes of the servo arms, so Im gunna have to be ready for the quickness again also, but I have a feeling that it's going to be easier to handle this time because I had a loose servo from the factory, and some loose arms on the see saw that were my doing somehow. Don't think they started out that way as I remember. I melted the retainers on good this time though. I also added some fuel line to the body mount wire sides, so the canopy only slides on so far. Looks real sweet !!!
So, another $50.00 down, and im ready to do it again. Dennis, Red Bluff, Calif. |

Thanks O Boy !!! Hmmmm.... I'd be glad to hover and land for a change... I assume that your talkin about forward flight, swoop in, lean er back and land. That would be sweeeeeeeet... Good luck !!! It sounds to me like a matter of timing, and not draging the tail stand before ya level out and drop. A short forward slide would be cool too sometimes. Technically, we have it better than a full scale chopper pilot, cause we can visually see the distance between the bird and the ground. Hows your flyin goin ? Are you burning up the sky, or just the low level stuff ? Man, I just want to get the hoover and land thing down... I have had such bad luck lately with my Ranger 3D. They sure let ya know when you make a mistake. LOL Crash Pilot Dennis

yep Dennis ive been flyen for a long time i tought my self to fly helo & airplains (very hard and lots of bucks) But like I read before. beats watching T/V I learnd how to fly on a raptar 30 v2 took me 3 days to hover 4 feet of the ground and another 2 weeks to fly around the yard very nice flyer crash it about 4 times around $150 each time.i am veary happy with this nr3d its been a good challange Ive got a lot to learn and I think ill do it on this chopper the parts are cheaper and the darn thing flys fast but i must say i too have run into a lot of miner problems like run aways, glitches, lose bolts, ext But thats the name of the game ya just gota love the hobby

O Boy, you got that right !!! It sounds alot cheaper. My average nasty crash is about $40.00 to $50.00, sometimes less... I couldn't handle $150.00 ...
When it only costs 30 is more my style, and that hurts !!! LOL I guess I am well on my way to sucess, it can't get any worse I don't think. LOL My VNR3D is sittin atop my monitor freshly repaired right now, and I just charged the TX and the Heli, so tomorrow it's check a few things again, top off charge, and hover practice with the balls on. Please wish me luck... I don't have any more fingers and toes left to cross... hahaha !!! I have a good feeling it's going to go better this time, because I now know every nut, bolt, and bearing of my Heli now. |

This time I added some inner body spacers made of fuel line, and an extra rubber band to hold the battery forward to the main motor. Not bad...

OOPS !!! I must have forgot to hit UPLOAD. LOL

Slow ??? Oh yeaaaaaaaaaa.... Im petrafied now !!! hahaha !!! I know now, that if anything can happen, it will, so I just can't allow it to be anything but sucess. From now on, it's check, check, and check again, every wire, nut, bolt, screw, switch, and knob. I refuse to let this little machine beat me...
I see where this is going, and I really beleive it's worth the effort to go all the way with it. I have learned a valuable lesson about self disapline with my little heli. It's truley amazing how I have been willing to take the risk and keep going, when I know I should stop and start over. The same thing happened every time... and I've had to fix it every time as well. I suppose that has been my punishment all along... It's really hard not to cheat, and try to save it, but you would think that sooner or later, I would come to the realization that if I couldn't do it the last 10 times, I probably won't pull it off this time either. I gotta stop doing that !!! From this time forward, if I get outta shape, Im settin er down, and givin up all the save it garbage, cause that's what I wind up with every time. "reformed crash pilot" Now that is a tag line LOL. Good Luck Dennis YOU CAN DO IT!
I spent all night working on mine and my buddies helis. I worked on 2 VNR2's and three VNR3D'S. I am starting to enjoy it more as I learn th mechanics. we are going to fly them today and I am so much more confident in them now I have personally checked and tightened everything. I also have that same slop Dennis mentioned in the seesaw control area. I wish I had thought to put a couple washers in there. Im wondering if C& G thinks it a good idea or if it is meant to have some play???? |
