I still run the Warp 4 (4 turn) inrunner with GWS 8x4" HD and a 2s2100mAh ThunderPower pack.

I just had a test flight of my MiniMag with a Himax HC2816-1100 outrunner motor with a 8x6 APC Electric prop. It was very windy, but the MM flew like a champ. Don't over speed the prop on take-off or in flight. I believe this motor was an alternate spec'd on the MM when it was first introduced. As I've said before, the MM is a great wind flyer.

For 2s 1800kv works fine. For 3s I would shoot for approx. 1200kv.

I was flying my MM and had to land because the ailerons were occasionaly ramming on full so I was coming into landing, miss judged the grass and flew into heather broke prop and pushed motor up into fuselage. I think the cables were out of the reciever slightly with the battery pushing against them. Could there have been any other way this would have happened?

Downthrust and an outrunner...

So last time I flew my MiniMag, a long time ago, I got frustrated and gave up on it. Too many crashes. Went through too many expensive inrunners on nose-ins. I just got frustrated and found a different plane to learn on.

That was a long time and many many flights ago. Saw my Minimag fuse, stripped in the garage and decided to get her back up and running again. Got a new wing. Got some electronics. Should be ready to fly again by the end of the week.

Going with an outrunner this time. This one in particular: http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...idproduct=2112

My question is, ought I put a fair amount of downthrust on it?

When I flew it with the Himax 2000KV inrunner, it would porpoise up on me bigtime. So the last mount I put in there I angled it so it had a fair amount of down.

What about you guys? You give it a some down thrust, or do you mount it pretty much level with no problems?

In addition to messing with down thrust, change the wings angle of incidence, meaning raise the trailing edge by putting a shim under where it touches fuse, usually a piece of velcro is enough to make the plane stop wanting to go up with throttle increase.

I use an outrunner on mine. I set it up with the stock thrust angle, which is some down and left. I used a stick mount, glued in place of the stock motor. It sticks out the front, which is good since it weighs quite a bit less than the stock brushed motor, so I dont have any tail heavy issues, and you don't notice it unless you really look at it. I fly with a 2000mah 3 cell and 8x4.3 slow fly prop

Dacour,

My degree of downthrust is not as severe as yours, but close. My motor is mounted on the old stock mount, which I glued in on an angle to give the old inrunner some down. I can adjust the angle of the outrunner easily by putting spacers between the firewall and the screw holes on the original mount. And I will make sure my CG is right since it is a lighter motor. Thanks for the reminder!

The incidence angles of wing and stab are OK the way they were designed. I fly my MiniMag with stock motor, brushless motor and even with floats - no problem.
