Dassault Rafale

Hi everyone,

Here's the next project I've been working on, the Dassault Rafale. This is the B model version. The canopy can be cut down for the M version as well.

Length: 36.2 in.
Wing Span: 26.5 in.
Total Wing Area: 281.24 sq. in.
Visible Wing Area: 181.92 sq in.

Setup:
Hacker A20-20L (Yup, I love these motors)
ESC X-20
GWS EP9050 Prop / APCE 9x6
TP 1320mah 11.1v Lipo

(3) GWS Naro Servos
(1) GWS 6ch RX

After 4 Check flights to get it right...the first three were almost foam pieces out the gate....I finally got the CG right and the controls setup somewhat good.

Here's some inflight video shot of the first prototype: RSteels Rafale In flight video

The wings are anhedral and the canards are dihedral. Flight took place today in 5 - 10 mph winds. Because of the anhedral wing, it really wants to dip into the wind during crosswind flight. Also, it is extremely sensitive. in the roll dept. This model makes you stay on your toes right from the get go until you figure out what dynamics are taking place.

Other than that, it is really a fun model to fly and do aerobatics with.

This time, I was smart and took pictures all the way through the build, and have a parts plan ready.

Here are the build plans:

Rafale Full Color

Rafale Full B/W

Rafale Tiled B/W

Wing and Canard Reference Angles

Wing Canard Reference Angles B/W

Wing and Canard Reference Angles Tiled

Foward Fuselage Templates

Rafale Build Guide

Build guide on its way

Enjoy,

Ray

In the small 3 view that I found in the Dassault-aviation pages, the andhedral (and canard dihedral) seems very slight. Maybe it would be more forgiving with a straight wing?

WOW! Nice one Ray! Sensational job - you just keep hitting the sweet-spot with these jets!

I for one just adore the Rafale and will be starting the build as soon as you post the plans.
I'm half-way through your Eurofighter plan at the moment and it is going together great!
Can't wait to begin this fave jet of mine and many other modellers out there.
Well done Ray, any clues as to your next build cos' they just get better and better?

Thanks for the insperation!

PLANS man we need plans....... Looks good and from the video, looks like it flys as good as she looks. I am just about done with your Eurofighter design, and now you through this one out.......I guess I will have to build another delta wing to add to my collection of jets.....just not sure where I will put all of these things, I am running out of room and electronics fast...... Again great job.

Thank you all. I do so enjoy this hobby. My wife on the other hand says it keeps me from going to the bars with my friends so she likes this hobby as well..in a round about way

I have posted the plans on the 1st thread.

I have sorted through the build pictures and have started the build guide. It should be ready either tommorow or the next.

Pertime => Yes, I do believe it would be more forgiving with a straight wing. The angle is 5 degrees down so straightening the wing wouldnt cause any concern for wing span.

Thank you again for all the kind words.

I think many of us sighed when Jetset decided to take a break from pusher jets.
But its amazing the types of jets that are coming out now!

Well done Ray and Alan for adding to our must build lists.

Gee its getting harder to fit flying in,with all these things to build

Cheers

Hi Graeme

Your most welcome mate, I think I have Ray and others behind me when I say there is a lot more to come.
This one is another great park jet to add to the ever growing list

If your taking requests I have a "few" But even more important than a specific jet, is the size of the jet. We have a lot of folks that would love to build EDF versions of your jets, so if it's possible, could you size them so we could use micro or mini-fans as an alternative power source? We can adapt the internal "Parts" for EDF conversion, but getting the overall size correct would be a great help!!
