Bullet, a balsa nano jet for the EDF40

UPDATE 11-16-10- added pics of the various iterations of Bullet (see attachments to this post). Current status is as follows:

Bullet #1 (yellow Bullet)- originally had 12mm Feigao 5300 motor. Updated to the new 20mm GWS motor. Radared and logged (Eagle Tree Logger) at 70 mph. Had it dialed in and flying perfectly, but unfortunately it's currently in pieces due to a recent RX outage. May rebuild with a 360 vectored thrust setup.

Bullet #2 (silver Bullet)- still flying with the Medusa 12mm. Recently added a 180 vectored thrust feature to it. It'll do some really crazy flat spins, snaps, etc.

Bullet #3 (Bullet X)- built with a deeper and larger battery bay so it could run 4s. Also sheeted the forward area of the wing and shaped the nose differently. Running the 20mm GWS motor on 3s currently, planning on trying 4s after I finish a catapult launcher.

Spacerunner- started 5 years ago, finally completed 11-22-10 and maidened 12-18-10. Runs twin Feigao 5800 Kv motors on a 3s 910 pack.

Stealth-E- there have been 3 iterations of Stealth-E built, see this thread for more info:

UPDATE 09-14-10- see post 258 for PDFs of the Bullet plan and parts template.

Hey guys,

Now that the Stealth-E project is just about done and ready for kitting, I'm toying around with the next nano design. Have a look at the drawing below and let me know what you think. The airfoil and wingspan are the same as Stealth-E, so it'll be 18-1/2" w.s., sub 5 oz. AUW, and will run the EDF40 either stock on 2 cells or with a Feigao 5300 or 5800 kv motor on 3 cells. I imagine this design will fly similar to Stealth-E (aerobatic, 70 mph in level flight on brushless, etc.) You can't tell in the below drawing, but the fuse will be rounded instead of the angular fuse of Stealth-E. Other differences are the dual stab tail, extended nose, wingtip reshaping, etc. Please let me know what you think of the looks of this one.

That looks pretty cool Tres. Do you think the fan will be ok sticking out the bottom, I know your other design is similar, so I am just curious.

Eric, thanks! I've got around 40 flights on the Stealth-E alpha and around 10 on the beta, so far so good. I did manage to do an accidental touch-and-go (more like a slam-and go ) off a paved runway with the alpha, you can barely see a scrape on the lip of the fan. The built up edge of the fan is really strong! LOL!

Barry, thanks for the feedback!

I'm going to try to get Dave at LB to laser cut some parts, hopefully I'll have one built soon

Thanks again Eric!

Woah, I just tried to view the picture I uploaded and I didn't realize that E Zone apparently automatically re-sized it (must have exceeded the max size). You can barely see the image! I'll try to upload a clearer image tomorrow (it's on my work computer).

Thanks Eric! It does look kind of like a Bobcat, I'm not sure if I had that in the back of my head or what After reading your comment, I went to the BVM website to look for some covering ideas. I think I'm going to go with a yellow and white scheme. I may do a black Bobcat style "canopy" (out of covering) on it as well. I'll play with it and see what that looks like.

Hey Tres,
Can I have one too? Looks like I'm gonna have to infiltrate Dave's garage (while he's at work) again so I can grab one of these.

Hey Now
Very nice! .78 ounce-maybe you can get 1:1 thrust out of this one.
Have you thought about using Solite on the bottom and tissue on the top and on the fins? Anything to drop the weight some.
See ya-Scott
p.s. still windy here.

Hi Tres,

Sounds like a great plan, lots of colorful ideas from the larger models.
