Before and after shot of charging a lipo??

I had finished flying my new foamy Citabria, second flight.
Went well.
I took it home hung it up in the ceiling and put the charger on my 2100 3s Thunder Power lipo.
Was working in the basement but went up stairs for five minutes and my plane was gone, room filled with some

3 years of flying with lipos and this is the first time this has happened.
And the first time I've charged a battery with it in the plane.
I guess I got to comfortable with the process and the saftey

Any way a good lesson learned, Will be going back to charging my batteries in a metal box outside.

Setup that was lost:

-New foamy Citabria
-new Walkera 180L brushless
-New CC Phoenix 25 amp ESC
-New JR micro 6 chanel receiver
- two month old 2100 3S Thunder Power lipo
-4 new micro servos
-OUCH!!!!$$$$

Ouch.
What charger were you using?
Did everything appear normal on the last flight?

Its a homemade charger that I've been using for several years.
It Stops charging at 12.5 volts and charges at about 850 milli amps
The battery was slightly puffed, before i charged it.
That was by far the biggest reason it went up in flames
DONT CHARGE PUFFED BATTERIES

That's my second plane lost this week!
I crashed my Tiny X on Monday, nothing left of it

And on top of this I melted two more Depron foamy kits that where
siting bellow the plane that was on fire. the kits have burn holes in the foam.

But luckly my Slow Stick was in the van still and not hanging beside the Citabria.

Charging a puffed pack. I'd bet the puffing was do to a imbalance, and you simply overcharged one cell, to the extreme.

I charge lipos in a BBQ. Not worth risking otherwise.

I just got my battery bunkers in... they are very nice. I doubt any harm could come to anything with the batts inside while charging. You'll love 'em. The price sure is right too... the small ones proved to be mauch larger than I thought. I purhcased 4 of the buggers.

As a heads up, he says that if a battery cathes fire in one you should not use it again. At $15, that's very reasonable.

If you marinade them in battery acid, it will improve the performance!!

Sorry, couldn't resist.

I have something like a battery bunker here and I have a battery powered smoke detector inside. I figure it will smoke some before it goes terminal and give me time to get it out of the house. I also have a fire extinguisher handy and never charge them unattended. Have the wife trained to ask if I have any batteries charging if I am going to leave the house.
