New 2.4GHz DSM radio - New standard?

I thought Plantraco 900MHz system will be the next RC radio standard. In fact I was writing about the need of hi-frequency radio to replace old 72MHz system few months ago and was delighted with arrival of Plantraco system. But It seems RC radio world has awaken from its long slumber this year to my pleasant surprise and had deliver another cutting edge product that might be the next world standard! Also a 7g crystal less RX to start with.

Introducing the revolutionary 2.4GHz spread spectrum DX6

DX6 DSM 6CH System with 7g RX and 4 X 7.5g Servos - $199.00

Chris,
Good thing about UHF is the RX does not need bulky components or long antenna so weight is not an issue. Most probably RX will be a single IC weighing much less than 1g. The 7g RX they have now has 2 RXs in a plastic case to extend the range and reliability. So we can expect micro RX soon.

Yup. Indoor uses are likely going to be widespread, since 2 rxs can weigh 7gs. Having no xtal reduces weight from the getgo. IR will soon be obsolete, I'm guessing. This is already very cheap. $200 for a 6-ch 10model memory computer radio, 2 servos, and a 7g rx. A similar 75MHz system (Optic 6) would cost more than that!

I like to open these old thread from the bottom of the page(similar threads), its almost like a time capsule. How far we have gone since 2005 when a 7 grams Rx was a subject of wonder

IR Infra Red. Those cheap radios you buy at Walmart etc.are IR No ant., just a light on the top that gives out the IR No good outside as the sunlight gives out IR making these radios useless outside. I still have a few that I fly indoors in winter flying.

Gord.
