Beechcraft Baron 58 E Conversion – Success

Zimmerman (here on Ezone) is a fellow club mate who is too modest to show off his latest success story. The model had its maiden flights yesterday and it flew beautifully.

The model is a 1.8m (70 inch) Wingspan Beechcraft Baron 58 (Original kit made by Japanese Marutaka models now extinct).
Zimmerman was not happy with the weight of the original kit and set about replacing much of the heavier hardwood sections with Balsa. The end result is a beautiful looking very scale model that flies’s extremely well. The full retract system worked faultlessly on the park grass

The Specs are as follows

• Electric Motors Hacker B40 13L x2 with 4.4 to 1 gearbox
• Props 2 x 11x8
• Ready to fly weight 3.5kg (7.71 pounds)
• Amps (static) 44
• Speed controllers x 2 Hacker Opto series, separate small receiver pack
• Batteries used are Kokam 3200mAh in 5 s config
• Servos all Hitec 2x HS56 for Ailerons, 2x HS75BB for retracts 3x HS 85mg
• Full retracts (work very well)
• Flight duration in maiden flights x 2 were approx 8-10 mins with approx 2180 mAh being pumped back into the pack

There will be some video soon after editing. The maidens were very successful and initial observation is that the model is actually overpowered as Zimmerman found he was flying the model on about 1/3 throttle the whole time this was hard to get used too.

Zimmerman started this kit over 15 months ago and set it aside many times as other models took his attention. I am glad he finished it as it is one of the better larger E planes we have seen Congratulations Z

Very nice. I don't have the patience for scale, but its easy to admire a plane like that.

Nice, thats my kind of scale plane. Seems like there are too many war birds some times and not enough civilian scale planes.

more photos

I jokingly pointed out to Zimmerman that he had missed the air intakes on the motor pods and true to form he went and finished it off like the real thing, here are some more great photos of the model as it flew late today….Video soon
