First Shots Using Tethered Balloon AP

Here are some shot from our newest platform. A teathered balloon! Some local developers needed shots from low level and we could not get our plane into the area....Chris

How big was that balloon and how high? Did you need a winch?

It is a helium 6 foot balloon. And there is no advertising on it but that an idea. No winch involved...Chris

Man, be very careful with that thing around eltricity lines. I know a friend that electrocuted himself with one when they first came out. I would consider anchoring it to something when you shoot so if you ever got into trouble with it, you wouldn't be left "Holding the bag"

Not trying to scare anyone, but I have seen them get pretty squirly in very little wind.

The picture/s look great!!

Are you able to pan and tilt with your camera mount?

Please post some pics of the rig and camera mount!

Also, how much time is involved setting everything up for a shoot?

Thanks for the comments:

We do have it achored to a set of weights and the car as backup. I will post pics just as soon as I can. Yes we the pan 360 degrees and tilt from straight out to straight down.

Setup time:

* 15 Mins to inflate the balloon fully colapsed
* 3 Mins to hook up the camera pod
* 4 Mins for groound station
* 1 Min to be at 125ft AGL

So is southernballoon where you got your ballon at?

Do you have some big old helium tank?

I assume you have to inflate/deflate for each job?

How much does it cost in helium to fill it for a job?

Thanks,

Scott

Yea, Southerballoon.

We rent the helum tank form either a party store or gas company. We try to keep the balloon inflated as much as possible. Helium prices vary by area.

I'm sure the prices do vary, just trying to get an idea. Is it $6 to fill it, or $100.

Thanks

To rent a jumbo tank from party city runs $65 with some left over. 2 medium tanks run about $40 and will do it....Chris
