Bungee Hook - constructed of?

I've been reading some of the posts on bungee launching and I'm building a pedal launcher.

My question is what is the best way to make a hook to mount on the plane? How do attach it?

I was thinking of using music wire doubled up and bent to form a hook. My plane (a foamie) has coroplast doublers and I was planning on fixing the hook to the coroplast bottom. Think this will work?

Does anyone have photos of their arrangements?

I use 1/8" L-screws which are screwed into a hardwood block which is embedded into the model. The block is usually 2-3" long and 1/2" thich. The width is not critical so 1/2" there is fine.

I use this arrangement on my <50oz EDF's.

I guess I was thinking about more of a curved hook. Is this wrong? Will a curved hook (as in my picture) hang onto the ring as it is supposed to release. Is it best to use a L type screw/hook?

A curved one wont hurt as long as the ring can fall of easily by itself when the tension is gone.

I'm currently bungee launching two planes.

The launch hook for my Kyosho T33 is made from a piece of 1/8" x 1/2" x 6" light ply, embedded into the landing skid. This works well for this 40 oz. plane.

The launch hook from my Electro Screamer is the light ply elevator control horn supplied with the kit. This has been embedded in the balsa nose block so only about 1/8" of the hook protrudes from the bottom. Works just fine on the 18 Oz, ES.

Both are held in place with epoxy.

I used a curved hook from hardware store with the end of the hook cut off so it was practically just straight with a little angle backwards. On a Zagi. Worked perfect, but each landing bends it backs farther.

Sal C - I can get some pics later.

Bill72 - locate the hook ahead of the CG. I place mine halfway between the nose and CG. Anywhere from the leading edge and halfay as described will work as the location is not critical. Gliders want height from the pull and are therefore much more dependant on a proper hook/CG position. We just want airspeed...

From what I've read (I'm new to bungee as you can see) it's usually 1/2 way between the LE & the nose. I'll just have to make sure on my first launch that I wait for the plane to release before I hit the throttle, otherwise chop, chop, chop!
