Slow Ramp and Soft Start on Direct Drive Motor

Hi all,

When I use gear boxes I set the start to very soft and any throttle ramp to slow to protect the gears (when I don't I tend to strip them).

With direct drive, Hacker A30-28S and A30-16M in this case) does it matter to have a slow ramp on throttle? Can I just wham the throttle back and forth and not worry about the motor?

One more, exactly how many poles constitute high pole count?

Thanks

Rapid throttle-up can cause spikes in Amps and momentary drops in voltage. Both might cause the controller to burp. Treat 'em gently. Tex.
