What prop? 7.2V 2 cell direct drive

Or, perhaps the better question would be what motor?

I'm running the stock brushed 7.2V speed-400 with a 6.6x3 graupner folder and 2 cells lipo in my Ascent.

The performance is adequate, really, but the efficiency stinks and the motor gets quite hot. If I can keep similar performance numbers but get either a lighter or more efficient combination I'd be much happier. (Especially if I could go lighter, this thing is seriously nose-heavy...)

Constraints are:

1> Gotta stay brushed
2> Probably has to stay direct drive- the shape of the nose would require a planetary box and I don't want that weight or expense.
3> 2 Cells lipo and max of 10 or 11 amps

Is there something better than what I'm using?

Ask Vintage, but a Long Can 400 might do well - though you probably need 3s to get the most from it.

Which makes 2 increases in weight. Bummer.

The brantuas calculator suggests that a speed-300 and 4.5x2.7 give similar results to what I have now, a hair more thrust and a little less pitch speed. 10 amps, though, which probably cooks a speed 300, doesn't it...
