What brushless for single motor heli

I need to choose a brushless for my hornet clone. This is a single motor(belt driven tail) 310g fixed pitch heli on a 2 cell. What kind of performance diference is there between an outrunner and a regular style? I would prefer an outrunner because of the shorter mounting length(the motor hangs off of the bottom of theframe). What kind of kv should I be looking for? Would either of these two work?

Well,
I just ordered an Arc 130W inrunner from Lightflightrc.com for my GWS DF.
Size, weight, power and price ($32.95) are pretty good. Motor tail, tho.

A lot of people have been using the Himax 2015-4100 on their fixed and collective pitch micro's.

Have a look at:
www.helihobby.com for ideas.

Also:
http://www.aircraft-world.com/shopexd.asp?id=3532 (might be a nice one)

or:
http://www.b-p-p.com/proddetail.php?...6Phoenix_Combo

Be sure to order a fitting heat sink and a pinion as well.

Since you have a gearbox on the helicopter you don't need an outrunner. I have had an outrunner in the past on my Piccolo but was happier with the Himax 2015.

Another good idea would be to check on www.runryder.com, this forum is segmented in different helicopter forums, which will probably give you more information in one place. I have used that forum for Helicopters a lot.

I have a 2015-4100 on one of my fixed wings and would have selected that for my micro helo, but the Arc actually outperforms it in specs and is cheaper.

Nick,

I just read your first post again and realised you have a Hornet clone..... most people I have met do have an outrunner indeed.

Have a look here, a forum especially for Hornet flyers: http://www.runryder.com/helicopter/f76p1/

Specs and reality...... not always the same, it all depends on the right gearing. I couldn't get my outrunner to work as good as my Himax, while the specs where better. Must say, I am convinced I had the wrong gearing conversion......

Fer sure, but Himax's do run hot, and that alone is not so good in a helo. Forum here says Arcs don't. I'll have to fiddle with the gearing with the ARC when I get it. Same 2mm shaft as Himax.

I am using the Himax with a gearbox (6.6:1) in my 3D Extra 330 at the moment (torqueing continuously for 20mins. in a row) and I use a heatsink, it really doesn't run that hot when using a heatsink. It didn't get really hot when I had it in my Piccolo Pro or Hummingbird CP, also because of the heatsink..... but never, never run it without a heatsink!!

Hey scott, is that heli motor available yet? On your website it is listed as under development and none of the dealers listed on your site show it.
Thanks
Nick
