Dumas 1954 36' Commander Express Cruiser (build)

Hello boat builders. Have I got a good one for you.

I'm gonna attempt to start my first thread for building. I hope to learn more about posting by doing this. And gain more friends in the boat field. I have built quite a few boats from abs, fiberglass, to wood. I just finished the 1949 dumas racer. I got so frustrated at times but knew when to put it down. Looking at the model and back I would do it again. Oh I guess I am. As always i hope that my boats turn out to be half as nice as Pat's. I build a little slower so this build could go into spring. If I'm Lucky. haha.

Well lets look inside. Oh I love smell of a new wood kit. MM Good.

All most forgot the goodies. Here is some pics of the hardware from MACK products. I ordered package 419 and purchased the 5045 12 volt motors, Octura 937/3 R&L props, and 1/8 drive-dogs seperately. You pay twice the price as you would with the Dumas package but don't let that stop you. The stuff from MACK is WAY nicer than the package from Dumas. However this is only my opinion.

Glad someone else is building one of these. I just ordered mine today, this will be my first boat as I have been building RC Aircraft for a few years now.

I am looking forward to building this model and will be watching this thread as you progress.

well its a start!!!

Finally got started .I assembled the two keel parts and the deck parts. I screwed them to the building board to be sure every thing is straight and true. I'm using Elmers wood glue for this part. I must say though I hate the die crunched parts for the hull. The cabin parts are laser cut so why oh why can't they do the whole kit laser cut? The wood supplied is very good other than the cutting. over all I'm happy. .

Framing the keel and sheer.

Here is the keel and sheer framed up with the bulkheads. Dispite the bad die cutting the parts fit is very good. I did have to shim a few places with 1/32" bass wood in a couple of places. The next step will be to glue the hard chines on and fair the bulk heads. Although I keep talking of the die cutting dont get wrong there is definatly worse out there. Ok enough bashing of that subject and lets emjoy the build. Here we go.

Wow, this is very interesting to watch! Seeing how you set it up for gluing and use shot bags as weight.

BTW, I see a shovel in the background!

Yeah the shovel nose is from the plans in rc boat modeler magazine. A friend and I are trying to get a spec class of those. It build real fast I can cut one out and assemble it in one day, about 8 hours or less. However it takes a lot longer to fiberglass it.

Looks great so far bluezephyr. I just received my kit this week, set up to start and the only Die Cut part missing was DC 5 sheets with the sheer parts. Now I have to wait till they send me the parts.

I will learn as I watch your progress.
