With so many models on the market which use cheap Mabuchi 380, Speed 400, Permax 400 and 7 to 8 cells, it is worth looking for a cheap BL tuning setup.

Which BL combo (motor & ESC) delivers approx. 60% more power (at the same power consumption as a Permax 400, 6V) on 2 Lipos and a Günther(ZAGI)prop (or similar sized prop) and costs less than $67USD?

Does anybody know the answer - or want to know the answer?

Well, the outrunners mentioned above are really no direct Speed 400, Permax 400 replacements.

I just ordered two more Align BL 400 SF with CC Thunderbird 18A ESC for $66.55 at www.allerc.com

Here you can see the test diagrams (using a Kontronik PIX1000 18A ESC) at 7V, 8V and 9V (I assume the CC Thunderbird 18A will work fine too with this motor):

I've dealt with allerc several times, and am well pleased, but I have an EasyStar and TwinStar on "hold" from another mfgr (allerc does not handle Multiplex, right)) and am waiting for all of your good news before I spend a bunch of money on those planes, radio, and "stuff".

Honest, I'm anxious, but I will wait patiently for your "findings".

I have the 2830 1000kv outrunner with 18A speed control from Aero-nut. I know its a bit out on your price bracket, BUT it is th e bomb.

My RCER Warp 4 died near the end of a flight 2 weeks ago. It would no longer spin up - it just stuttered and then quit. So, I pulled it out and called up All e RC where I bought it and they took it back without a problem and sent me a replacement. In the meantime, I also saw the good price on the Align motors and their performance data. I ordered the 2500 kV one and installed it in my EZ. So far - I am extremely pleased. I flew with it yesterday and can report that the motor puts out nearly the same power but my run time has gone up by a good 5 minutes. I ran my usual flight routine with a good mix of aerobatics for just at 20 minutes. I still had 700+ mAh left in the 2600 mAh pack.

Jurgen is right - if you are considering a BL upgrade for your EZ, you should look at the Align option. Note the motor shaft is 1/8". My 3 mm prop adapters would not seat properly so a new prop adapter was purchased at a LHS. I would go for a bigger capacity ESC though than the 18A. It is easy to pull over 20A with a 6X4 prop, if you are using 3 cell LiPo packs like I am.

What props do you suggest with that combination??
