TBC (twin boom cutie) speedy foamy

Now that I finished (and successfully maidened) my latest project it would be time to show it to the "public".
Wanted to build something "different" and had this shape for long time in my mind...now it finally broke out :-)
Looks to me like a Reno-Racer designed by Burt Rutan ...errr...if he lived back in the 1940ies or something... :-)
Flies quite decent, REALY fast (wit 6x6 prop), agile, but also quite docile in slow flight (use flaps). Goes vertical with no problem.
I might move the CG a little further forward, cause it is a little twitchy in gusty weather conditions.

Weighs around 300g (10.5oz), wing-span 68cm (26.7 inches)

Just take a look at the pics. Maybe someone feels inspired to do something similar or improve the design.

Nicely done - neat design idea.

Now just make those "sponsons" a little taller, add a step and you would have a flying boat

Just kidding around, but it does look like it could be made into a float plane pretty easy.

I still resist to join the flying-speedboat hype! :-)
Although I admit that it has something aquatic. Due to my poor foam-bending/molding skills the booms look like floats :-))))

Maybe it's worth to give it a try on the water....after I replaced the RC-gear
with cheaper parts... ;-)

Pretty cool....
By the way, Rutan did build a Reno Racer, called the Pond Racer. Looks a lot like yours! Any plans?

Amazing air-plane! Right, it's the Rutan-"pond racer".
A friend of mine already told me about this plane when he saw my plans.
As far as I know it was lost, sadly killing also the pilot.
Got another pic....

I derived mine from old plans of one of my later projects :

Plans... I've done some templates for myself. If you like I can post them. Just have to add some comments, cause they are not very explicit.

Now look what I've just googled about the "pond racer"... if my dutch was only a little better

For some reason that reminds me of the pod racers from star wars ep1.

I got some video up of the maiden-flight.
Sorry for the bad quality, my GF already did her best to catch it on camera...

I really like this plane - I would build one now, but my slate is pretty full right now. I think I will do one at some time in the future, though. A twin with a motor in each pod would be neat, too.

What motor / battery combo are you using? It looks like a small outrunner. With the price of outrunners and brushless esc's getting cheaper and cheaper this could be a nice, low cost build.

Thanks for the positive response

Here are the tiled plans in pdf-format... If there is anything unclear, please ask!

hakysticks,

Yea! A twin moror would rock. I thought about that too. Two pushers at the rear of the booms would look cool ... or even 2 EDFs housed in slightly larger the booms! That would give it kind of Me262-look

Battery is Sky-holic Lipo, 3s1p, 1350mAh (100g 3.5oz). The relatively large battery is needed to pull the CG as forward as possible and gives also solid power and flight time.
Motor as you correctly assumed is a small outrunner "Cyclon-2" (http://www.cyclonbrushless.com/cyclon-intro.html). The motor weighs only 40g (1.4oz) and is good for some 12-15A .
