Onboard Video/photos of magpies attacking my plane in flight!

It's spring in Australia! ...

So the local magpies are busy defending their breeding territories. There's a pair that nest near my local park who HATE me flying there, so today I mounted my old AIPTEK Mega pen cam into the wing of my S&B Komet, facing rearward.

These magpies know me and see me coming, so as soon as I start the 500 yard walk to the local park, they swoop me all the way there ..... and back.

Here are a couple of frames taken out of the video I took (dont know how to post a video yet - can anyone help please? using MS Frontpage) of the magpies attacking the plane. The video looks great. Hopefully post it soon. Enjoy

So one practical use for RC video platforms is as a TARGET DRONE!

Actually, the video frames might be quite useful to those studying avian aerodynamics.

Think about an aircraft that has virtually hundreds of control and flying surfaces; hard to study up close and in real time.

Bird Strike

I guess this could really be classified as a "Bird Strike".

I've always wanted to see a video of bird attacks.
If you can get it down to 2mb you can upload it directly to the forum just like you post a picture.

That's awesome and looks like it would be lots of fun!

Here's your next step:

Build an on board bb gun triggered by a servo. LOL

Just kidding but sounds fun too

always check your six...

Very cool and intersting pics. I realy like the bird just getting bigger and bigger comming from behind. Thanks for sharing!

I did not have such a close encounter but I also once had to start dogfighting a bird to get my plane back. I was on a standared reccon mission with my nikon 3700 when this big bird decided my plane was disturbing his day. I cought a few shots of him on video...Will post the video in the gallery section.
