The Ghost. A micro rigger with GB power!

I wanted to make a small rigger that was cdrom powered, but as usual I didn't manage to keep it normal...

She's almost done now, missing turn-fin and rudder.
My plan is to use a thin curved lexxan plate for the top hatch after adding a charge-port with balancing function and two air-plugs in case it needs drying out inside.

Motor is way too big for the size, especially since I only run a 10 amp ESC.
Will probably swap out motor later for a single stack and use a kokam 340.

The ESC is a Phoenix 10 wich I have sprayed with PRF 202. (waterproofing it)

Regardless of how I went overboard on this one, it will be immensly fun.
Weight is 172g now. Only a few tidbits to go. Will make sure I have video for maiden, just in case.

Oh, and motor is a 6t GBx3 with tripple 26ga wire. It does 15210 rpm on a not topped off 3s 700 mAh LiPo sucking 1.2 amps idle.

Where can i find the thing's you secured the prop onto the shaft and what are they called. Thanks for any help you can gave.

The inner thing is called a drive-dog. It usually comes in a set with a blocing collet thingy. Together they are usually just called propeller stopper or similar. Kyosho part number 94444 is 4mm type. I used the wall of a fanta-can rolled up to stuff out the diff between 3mm shaft and 4mm prop system.

Update! It runns!

Here's a video of hos smooth the shaft runns:

Here's a vido of the boat in action:

Any tips on imporvements would be greatly apprechiated. Looks like it digs in a bit on right sponson? Also, I think I need to beef up rudder as it seems to oscillate abowe 70% throttle.

It looks a lot of fun The problem with boats that size (it looks twice as small in the video) is that there usually very sensitive to adjustments. Did it go right under water towards the end?

Yes it did!
Either I jolted the throttle, or I snagged something under water.
I kept it in the video because it was funny LOL.

The hull is shaped so that if it pulls under it will not pop back up under power as it digs in deeper... Not best design probably, but looked good

The prop is a 42mm dia, 1.6" pitch one so it really twists the boat too. WOT = 15k rpm, 8 amps.

I am deffo sure I need to do something about rudder though.

no wings any more, just dust!

kre, the Ghost looks the biz, looks like it will give a graupner ecospeed racer a run for its money. congratulations on a first run

The rudder tube looks fairly short. If there's anyway to make it 5 mm or so longer it should help to support the rudder better.

Here's piccys of the rudder.
As you can see, the ammount of area to attach anything to on the rear there is very limited. I think I need to beef up the plate I attach to the rear.
Then I can beef up the rudder.

The sharkfin on rudder was in case I flipped, to try and keep some control.
Rudder can turn till hitting the shaft and out same distance other way.

I was planning 2-3mm FG for the mount-plate and 3mm FG shaped like a wedge for the rudder. The new mounting plate needs to extend further back from the boat to give the linkage room for gentler flexing, Also the rudder needs to be larger I think.

Whats the rudder blade made of? Could it be flexing itself rather than slop in the linkages? That would be consistent with the effect being more evident at full speed.

Yes. I made a better rudder with 3 laminated 1mm FG plates and sanded it to a razor-sharp wedge. New rudder is 1" deeper.

I also made a new mount that holds the rudder a bit further out to right and back to help linkage.

It seems very nice but still not great. Having rudder before prop seems to make it very weak. Maby I should use a rudder up front at the sponson ?
The tail seems to track well and maby it should only have a blade to help it against the prop travel.

It ran much better now. Vide will be coming up later tonight!

Video is UP!
It's 23 MB almost 4 min long.

The new rudder really helped, but I want more authority on it.

Theese should be great for seeing what can be tweaked.

New prop balanced...

I made myself a simple yet very accurate prop balancer to balance the new Prather s215 prop. It turned out quite ok I think.

Here's a piccy of the balancer and prop. Should have used thicker balsa as the mags pulled tight to the shaft
Anyway, I just cross-braced and it worked great.

Prop is as mentioined a Prather s215 which is a 1.6" diameter, 2.5" pitch prop.
I was using a plastic Kyosho prop measuring 1.6" diameter and 1.6" pitch so maby this will give me more speed... I know the motor has enough torque so I'm not worried about that.

Any other tips for me on how to fix the sponsons digging and the weak rudder ?
