F-18 Super Hornet ParkJetI've picked up one of Jazsop's F-18 Super Hornet Kits (Currently being sold on Ebay) so I thought I might as well share the build with you all. After September 1, 2005 you can buy their kits directly from there new website www.6mmflyrc.com The Super Hornet is modified from JetSet44's F-18 plans, with changes to the Intakes, and the LEX giving it the shape of the Super Bug. As you can see the kit has quite a few parts, and Matt forgot to mail the instructions with the kit So I'll be using Jetset44's F-18 Construction Manual as a guide to help me along the way. I'm sure I'll make a few mistakes, so if anyone see's something wrong, please feel free to tell me I'm hoping to keep the AUW of the Super Bug under 20oz. but I'm a bit of a glue nut and I'm sure I'll end up using too much and this bird will end up weighing way too much My glue of choice is Gorilla Glue as I really don't care for Epoxy at all, and I like foam safe CA just a little bit more. I may go and buy some UHU Creativ Glue come payday, but I suspect I'll use the Gorilla Glue most of the time. I'll be powering the Hornet with a Little Screamers Outrunner which should get me into the 18 to 20oz. thrust range with a 7 X 5 Prop and I'll be using a CC PHX-10 ESC and PolyQuest 3S 1100mAh Lipo Pack to feed the beastie I'll be starting the build tonight, after I get things "straightened out" (again) in my build room/cathouse. (I Hate's Cats) I haven't decided on a Paint Scheme for the Jet yet, so if you have a link to something simple (I'm horrible at painting ), I might try it. Otherwise I may just go with the Blue Angels Scheme as we already have decals for it thanks to Steve S. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This thread marks a bit of a milestone for me, my 3,000th post here on R/C Groups. I've just had a bit of a "Row" with the management over the use of my "URL under my Avitar" www.parkjets.com and naturally they won I had listed my new websites URL there for the past month or so, and my previous RChomepages website URL before, and no one seemed to mind, or complain about it. This is just an F.Y.I. to everyone: It seems that only "R/C Groups Sponsors" are allowed to post a URL in such a fashion, and seeing as how I don't have $50.00 to 300.00 per month to buy advertising space here, I was forced to comply with the rules, and remove my URL from under my Avitar. I know quite a few sponsors of the R/C Groups, and many of them are either not aware of the policy, or they choose not to take advantage of the policy, and they do not post there own URL's in such a way. So, I would urge any R/C Groups sponsors reading this post, that you take advantage of your "Rights and Privliges" and post your websites URL under your Avitar. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Now that I have that out of my system I'd like to take a second and brag about my website, www.parkjets.com It is a free resource to everyone in the R/C community, where I'm attempting to bring together all the Information that is scattered about the RC Groups forum, and other websites, and put it all "Under One Roof" so everyone can find the info they need to build and fly parkjets (Pusher and EDF). In the future, I'll be creating databases for all of the parkjet type motors and there Prop and EDF stats, a database for all of the Manufactured kits and ARF - RTF ParkJets for sale at various websites, and I hope to compile a huge list of links to everyones Building Tip's and techniques. I will also list or host free parkjet plans and video's for those who want to share work, and make it available to everyone. I'd like to thank Jetset44. Thomas Nelson. Hans-Joachim, Mr. Boogie, FuelsGuy, and everyone else who has supported me and my efforts to make this all happen, you guy's are the best!!! Everyones generosity in supplying free ParkJet plans to the R/C community has resulted in thousands of new R/C flyers joining us, and you all have the satisfaction of knowing that the ParkJets you have produced are being built and flown WORLDWIDE!!! (I even saw one of Jetset44's F-18 Parkjets being displayed at a Turbine Jet Fly-in reciently!!) For the first month it has been active, the website is getting over 250 new and "Unique" visitors each and every day Many of these visitors have never heard of the RC Groups before, and lots of them are joining the ranks, and becoming valued contributors here. The popularity of the Free plans has helped quite a bit. In one months time, Jetset44's F-14 has been visited by over 1,000 unique visitors alone!! In All, all 28 free plans have been visited 12,900+ times in 30 Days!!! That is an amazing 429 collective daily hits!! Time to get busy, I hope by my 4,000th post I have a whole fleet of Parkjets flying!!! Tom - Milwaukee |

Way to go Tom! Distilling the zillions of posts that accompany free plans down into the bare essentials is a good idea, and will definitely add value to the community. Keep up the good work!
Oh - and I can't help you with the paint question. Frankly, I don't believe I've ever seen a Superbug with a high-vis paint job. But if you're soliciting non-scale ideas, I'd vote for one of the Tiger schemes. A bit of weight & work, but stunning in the air & on the ground. Action Jack's got that one DOWN! Hey - your bird's already grey ... all you would need is orange. |

hi Tom,
LOL I don't know about one of those tiger meet paint scheme's yet, that's a bit more than what I want to tackle I'll take a look see through Kevin's F-18 thread, there was a website that had a lot of paint scheme's on it, maybe I can find one for the USS Ronald Reagan but there probably all low-vis like you said. This one looks kinda nice Intresting stuff you find while browsing around the web: First Super Hornet Flight Test Cat Shot off of the USS John C. Stennis http://www.chinfo.navy.mil/navpalib/.../fa18/cat1.mov and what goes up must come down First F-18 F Carrier Landing |

I also want to salute Tom for all the effort he's put into www.parkjets.com. It's a fantastic resource and a great service to the RC community. Whenever I'm out flying my parkjets, I always get the inevitable question "Where can I get one of those?", and I used to try to tell folks how to navigate to the Ezone Pusher Jet forums, which was a REAL pain. Now I just say, "www.parkjets.com!". MUCH easier!
THANKS for all your great work on this, Tom! Steve |

hi Bob,
Thanks for the good words Wife don't like build juice, so I'm stuck with coffee and a pipe full of Capt. Black Gold tobacco. BTW, did you ever get your LearJet flying? I'd love to see that one!! I was waiting for Steve S to up-date the construction guide which he did tonight. There's all new plans for the F-18 and F-15 along with new construction guides for both jets I'll update the build tomorrow Tom - Milwaukee |

Hi Tom,
Negative on the LearJet, its slated for a winter build. I need to rework the pods in CAD and have some ply parts laser cut. The existing foam parts are quite weak, and the motor setup will be 500watts a side FWIW, a mini hot glue gun works great on smaller parts. Big parts take some time to setup/place so Gorrila glue is a good choice. I'm heading out for more popcorn Bob. |

Not much to report today, I'm still trying to figure out which parts go where, I may have to tile print the F-18 parts templates and tape those together and compare those parts to what I have Some parts I can Identify ok, but it's the smaller former pieces I'm having trouble with.
EDIT: Got Everything Figured out finally Some of these pieces are WAY different than the Standard F-18, but I got 'em all nailed down!! |

After two weeks in Hot and Humid Florida, and a weekend of emergency bathroom tile repairs, I'm ready to get started on the Hornet. I'd like to thank Jszsop at www.6mmflyrc.com for sending me a set of re-cut elevator fins, along with my order of 6 32" CF rods.
Sorry for the long wait, I know it will be worth it Tom |

Just to let you know I haven't fallen off the map I've started the assembly process, I'm at the point of gluing and attaching the nosecone, then hacking it up with a knife and sandpaper to approximate the Super Bug Long nosecone. I have to work on using lighter amounts of the polyurethane glue, it really foams up and it oozing out all over the place
I guess I should have waited and bought a newer kit as I hear that www.6mmflyrc.com is now gluing and shaping the nosecone and canopy pieces. (My next headache, the Canopy) Maybe I should take Bob's tip and buy some "Build Juice" Tom |
