Pull pull setups
What is everyone using for pull pull string materials, and how are you attaching the ends? I'm looking for new and clever ideas!

The lightest is to just wrap the cable around the horns and lock it in place with a bit of thick CA. Don't use thin, because you don't want it to wick down the line and stiffen it.
Once you have the length correct, and the joint secure, you can make a few more wraps of the free end and add some more CA so it never comes loose. Servo end is just carbon rod glued into a hole drilled through the output shaft of the servo. Control surface end is also carbon rod, and integrated into the bracing. For the cable itself, I think I use ~5 pound spider-wire. Not 100% sure, because when I went to check it was not where I usually keep it. |

Like above for my last build with 1mm carbon rods through the servo. Last year after 10 years I ran out of Kevlar thread and found that braided line is even better. The black looks nice.

Because all the control surfaces on my Expedition SCF are removable I use this method to connect pull pull.
My method is to make eye loops in the end of the string using UHU- so it can be adjusted/removed with alcohol. The horn rods get a short piece of heat shrink, then the eye then another short piece of heat shrink which is shrunk just enough for a snug but removable fit. The eyes are made by going around a rod with the thread then twisting it together with your fingers which have some UHU on them. Let it dry then slide over the rod and secure with HS tubing. |

Un-waxed dental floss.
One end gets tied to a small loop formed from 0.3 mm wire and the other (on the servo end) has a tensioner like you have on tent ropes made from one cut-off side from an old servo arm. Paul |
