I'm still reeling from the 5 cousins I lost in the 1980 Mount St. Helens eruption.

I doubt the Earth will see a single cataclymic demise. Climate change will slowly transform whole regions to the point they can no longer produce food and the seas will rise to the point where a significant portion of the planet will become uninhabitable. Nations will go to war to fight over the fewer regions capable of sustaining a population.
