Magnum Models DAW KA-6 3M build

Now that I have finished my Daw mini war bird build, and am all warmed up on that style build it is time to finally get started on the KA-6 .

First step : I spent the afternoon cleaning off my work space {it's amazing the lost parts you find }

There is Alot of foam goodness stuffed into that box ,Its nice to be able to spread it all out in one spot - It's ok if you do not have a huge work area as the wings build in sections and you only need 58" space when you join the tips to the inner sections .

Let’s start the build

First steps :
I like to start out by working on the wings .
I pull out ,identify and mark all the pieces ( Spars ,sub trailing edges , trailing edges left and right sides )

Are you going to add flaps to yours or keep it stock?

I will be adding flaps ,the last time I flew my buddy’s unflapped Ka-6 over Lake Erie in Cleveland I had a difficult time getting it slowed down and landed , was a Hot arrival 😬

Mine has spoilers. They definitely help.

Make sure you install the aerotow setup. Dave’s aerotow mechanism is simple but effective.

I aerotowed mine a few times, works great.

And for gods sake, make the whole radio removable. I still have the original dead battery in the nose. It’s just ballast now. I now put a new battery in a cutout right on the CG. When I built my KA6 back in 02’, I had not yet started building my EPP gliders with removable radio gear. Fortunately I finally saw the light.

Flaps

Trisme : who has built 2 had posted elsewhere that his flaps started 11.5 from the root which gives you a 24” flap

Tom: is there a reason why you didn’t go full span with the flaps ?
