New to group
To introduce my self, I am a recently retired automotive technician who has loved all things steam since I can remember.
I currently run 2 1/8 scale live steam locomotives, a Fitchburg Northern 2-6-0 and a 0-4-0 Hercules, British yard loco. My first venture into the world of live steam boats is a 1/32 Midwest Seguin. Power is a Saito T2DR with a B2F boiler and burner. The hull is finished and covered with 1.4 ounce cloth and epoxy, picture attached. Superstructure is complete and stained mahogany, I am trimming to 1890 color scheme. Has anybody built a Seguin, if so the rear grating plans are vague, how high above the deck does it sit? Second question is regarding the exhaust stack. The Saito power train puts the stack at the skylight opening instead of where it is supposed to be. I have currently made the skylight larger with a removable top to facilitate the Saito, any other ideas? |

I have done a trial fit, that is why I know about the stack. I was looking at the other build on the site and I feel that if I open up the deck up to the front deck house curve and then massage the #2 frame I can bring the burner forward enough to get the stack where it belongs. Might have to make some sort of dummy ventilator to cover the fuel fill.

I can't really say without seeing the steam plant in the hull. But you have several options:
- move the boiler to line the stack up, - build a bend into the inner boiler exhaust stack to meet the outer stack, - move the outer stack to match the boiler position. In my projects I have always used option 3 :-) |

Let me ask you this, Imperial58: If the boiler were a vertical style, rather than the horizontal B2F, would you have the room you need to insert the boiler exhaust stack at the scale position. For example: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Saito-Steam...-/123160536282

Problem resolved, I hope.
Thanks for the info and advice. I cut out the deck within the deckhouse area and removed a 1" square in front of the deckhouse very carefully. The burner fill sits underneath the "service hatch" and the stack now aligns with the hole in the deck house roof. It actually might work out better, as I now have room for the water recovery tank and r/c gear between the boiler and engine. We'll have to see how the trim works out, might need a little ballast in the stern. I will post some pictures later.

Pictures of mods to allow correct stack location
First picture is the new burner location, brass plate runs through reworked #2 former and connects and anchors the burner to the boiler. Second through fourth are the boiler and engine installed with the r/c gear mounted to a bridge across the coaming. I have run pull-pull cables for the rudder through the copper tubes going to the fantail. fifth and sixth are the hull before I covered all that beautiful woodwork with white primer. Hull colors will be red oxide below the waterline, white above with dark green rubbing strakes. I am still torn between deviating from the original and leaving the rail cap mahogany or painting it green to match the rubbing strakes. I also received my 1/2" brass letters for the name plates the other day. Supposed to be for a charm bracelet but trim off the rings and they are the perfect size. Less than $1 each. I am painting the name plates black with dark green scrolls.

I am now at the stage of rigging the Seguin. Standing rigging is completed but the plans for the running rigging suck. First off is operational rigging just a pipe dream I have or do I assemble it so it looks like it would work then just glue everything down? On other things I discussed the burner control with Steve Clarke, he sort of asked how much work went into it and how upset I would be if it burned to the waterline. Propane it is, parts including automatic burner control are on their way from Cliveton Steam!! Pictures to follow.
