What Did You Fly Today?
Unbelievable..... I got up this morning, sun shining, wind below 5 mph and just a few clouds! First day we have had like this since last September! Loaded the car with planes and headed for the soccer fields (3 together). Flew the Zagi 400X, Popfly, Tilde w/fan, Kavanshot, Acro-bipe and Mini IFO. I actually flew till my thumbs gave out and people started arriving with their dogs. In all about 4 hours one plane after another. Now the kicker. NOT ONE CRASH OR BAD LANDING in spite of the usual gathering of spectators and my showing off. (That's usually when I blow it!) What a great day!

My 9 year old son kindly made me a new fuselage for my Switchback yesterday so I got to fly that. Also got to try a Cessna 180 that ArenaBlimp is working on for me. We had it up in 9 mph winds!

Hey Boomer, Way to Go! 4 hours! That's a lot of flyin' .
Wish you many more days like it. I didn't get to fly at all today, but got to see a lot of other people flying bigger planes at Top Gun. Truly amazing. BC |

I got up to a sorta fun-fly at a local club and wowed them with the Switchback 3d's aerobatic capabilities, then put the other wing on with the retracts in it. After putting on an RG demonstration, one guy said to everyone new who arrived and looked at the plane "he's got another wing that's got retracts in it!" I felt good getting in 4 flights on the SB in light variable breezes (possibly up to 8 - 10 mph). I ROG'd each take off from short wet grass, and landed perfectly each time, able to taxi back to myself (I always leave some juice in the packs)
And btw Doug, those two planes look great side-by-side. Talk me into one! |

After thinking about it, that Cessna would look fabulous with big ol' fowler flaps hanging off there in a scale fashion.

I flew my scratcbuilts today everything went well for most of the flights till the last one. My girlfriend had come over and was steady messing with me, so I rushed the last landing. I am not sure what happened but as I was on final all the sudden the plane balloned up and next thing I know it is stuck in the top of a tree I got it down and it had some minor damage. What makes this real bad is that I have 70 flights on this plane and it has never even been close to a crash, moral of the story next time my girlfriend comes over the planes get put up till she leaves

That totally rocks Boomer! What a great experience! It was a little windy most of the day here, but I did get in several really enjoyable flights with my TM and sailplane. 2 nice long flights with the TM right off my back patio!
I'm really curious what you think about the Pop Fly vs. the Tilde since you have both? I was thinking of getting a Tilde, but I broke down and ordered a Pop Fly instead. I really love the looks of it on the site with the translucent covering. |

Well I didn't get to fly today, but yesterday I test flew my Sokol (not a parkflyer) and put two great flights (landings aren't fun) on it. Very Smooth.
Then ...(putting on flame suit) I flew a .40 powered Sig Fazer and burned some holes in the sky with that. (don't worry it wasn't mine) --Paul |

Tres,
The popfly (36" span) weighs about 7 oz w/o battery and the Tilde (24" span) 4-1/2 oz. But the popfly has almost double the wing area. They both fly great but the fan on the Tilde handicaps this little jewel. I will probably remove the fan after the novelty wears off and put on an GWS A with 7 X 6 or 9 X 7 prop to get a fair comparison. I expect the Tilde will probably fly rings around the Popfly when set up as designed since Popfly uses direct drive. They both are a blast to fly. You will love the Popfly as it handles so well. I had a prop fly off today and she just glided gracefully to a landing as if nothing had happened! The biggest diff. is the Tilde is made of EPP foam and the Popfly isn't. However, I have run into several things with the popfly with minimal damage so far! boomer |
