Question

How long does it take to charge your LiPo?

Using my Esky charger lastnight it took two hours to charge my 11.1V 3 cell pack? I am using it with a 12V 1500mah AC power supply from Radio Shack. Is this normal charge time?

Just the standard 3 cell it came with. I don't have the option of changing the rate on the charger.

It's a good chance your battery is a 1000 mah. Now depending on the amp out put on your P/S it could take a while to charge. Try this: Time the amount of time it takes to charge off a charged car battery. I use a car battery charger with a 10amp 12v power supply in the charger itself and it takes around 20mins.

I wouldn't think they would give you a 1000mah batt and a charger that does 1500mah this would be very dangerous. More then likely you are just getting a trickle charge whatís sounds like half of the batt 1c rating this would come out to about two hours.

Every battery that I have if charged at itís 1c rating will take about an hour. You have no chose in the matter with a wall charger. Get youíre self a decent charger that handle lipos this will make life a lot easier.

Any suggestions on a charger? Plantraco? Is the charger I'm using bad for my pack, or shortening the life of it?

How much can you spend?

Do you want to be ablke to charge other types of batteries, like Nimh, Hicad and so on?

Duane,

This will be strictly for LiPo's. $100 is my maximum amount right now.

Im not too sure, but I just got a Triton, and am really pleased with it.

They go on eBay, brand new for about $120, so you might be able to find a good deal, or get one second hadn of eBay for under $100.

This might not be the bect charger for you, as it does most battery types, and you are obviously paying mpore for that, maybe someone can recommend a Lipo only charger that is good...?

Just by looking at your picture your charger has an putput of 0.8 amps. This means if you are charging a 800mah pack it would take approx 1 hour. If you are charging a 1500mah pack it might take 2 hours.

If you had a charger that you could set the output to 1C of the battery rating and if it charges at that 1C for the entire charge they will charge in approx 1 hour.

The Trition I had never charged at what I set it at... and everytime it took almost 2 hours to charge a pack. The Astro 109 on the other hand always charges at what you set it to and no matter how small or larger the pack it charges in approx 1 hour.

I like my Vision Peak Ultra. It even has AC input, so you won't need a transformer to run it. You'll have to make a cable for your lipo connector. I just cut off the tamiya dc connector supplied and put a deans on mine.

It's lower cost than the Triton and does AC, two big plusses. It doesn't have temp sensor input though, which the triton can do.

It's about $90 new. Todd's models used to have it, and it looks like horizon hobby has it also.

(Make sure you look at the Ultra, not the 2. Only the Ultra does lipo as well as nimh and nicad.)

Without doubt you need an Astro 109.
