Introduction

LIVE LARGE

Cessna® Aircraft Company introduced the Model 150 in 1959 as the “world’s premier trainer”. That claim became fact as more than 20,000 were produced over nearly two decades, helping hundreds of thousands of new civilian pilots successfully take to the skies. After E-flite® released the original Carbon-Z® Cessna 150 2.1m, it also earned high esteem for its “mild to wild” flight capabilities — making it the perfect first giant scale or everyday fun-to-fly large-scale model for a wide range of pilots. Now E-flite has updated and upgraded the model while christening it the Carbon-Z Cessna 150T 2.1m — the “T” standing for Taildragger. This version’s standard taildragger landing gear, with oversized tundra-style tires on the main gear and a steerable tailwheel, allows you to fly from a wider variety of surfaces and even off rough terrain. The 150T also includes a more reliable and capable Spektrum™ Avian™ Smart ESC. With a compatible receiver (such as the AR637TA installed in the BNF® Basic version), it provides a variety of real-time telemetry data to keep you aware of power system status while you explore the improved capabilities in more places than ever before!

Overview

FLY IT YOUR WAY

Updated and upgraded, the E-flite® Carbon-Z® Cessna® 150T 2.1m is the Smartest, most capable, most convenient, and easiest to fly giant scale model of the civil aviation legend ever! Its factory-installed Spektrum™ Avian™ 60-amp Smart ESC and high-power brushless outrunner motor are compatible with a wide range of batteries. Install a 4S pack for slow and smooth scale flying, use a 5S battery for added power, or go with 6S for far-better-than-scale performance! Keep the weight and wing loading down with a 3200mAh battery, enjoy a great balance of performance and handling with a 5000mAh pack, or move up to 7000mAh for long, 10-15+ minute flight times. The choice is yours! The ESC is paired with an AR637TA receiver in the BNF® Basic version, giving you access to real-time telemetry data plus the benefits of AS3X® and optional-use SAFE® Select technologies — and motor reversing for special ground handling and other capabilities (compatible Smart receiver and 7+ channel transmitter required for reversing).

Out of the box, the Cessna 150T 2.1m comes with taildragger landing gear and oversized tundra-style tires so you can fly from a wider variety of surfaces and rough terrain. The original’s tricycle landing gear, smaller tires, wheel pants and floats are also available separately so you can choose the look and capabilities you prefer! Use the functional, and very effective, flaps for shorter takeoffs and landings. Factory-installed LED landing, navigation and strobe lights, powered from the flight battery, enhance the realism. Composite-reinforced, hollow-core EPO construction results in a lightweight yet durable airframe. Plus durable, metal-geared servos all around deliver crisp, precise control — whether you choose to fly mild or wild! The two-piece wing with thumbscrews and an exclusive hands-free servo connection system make it easy to install or remove the wings easily in a few minutes, no tools required! For all of these reasons and more, the Cessna 150T 2.1m is the perfect first giant scale or everyday large-scale model for a wide range of pilots. Best of all, you can have it out of the box and ready to fly in about the time it takes to charge a battery!

Exclusive Technologies (BNF® Basic version only) The Cessna 150T 2.1m is equipped with exclusive Spektrum™ AS3X® and SAFE® Select technologies. AS3X works behind the scenes to smooth out the effects of wind and turbulence to deliver a locked-in feel that makes it seem like you're flying an even larger airplane. Optional-use SAFE Select offers pitch and bank angle limits along with automatic self-leveling that can be turned on and off at the flip of a switch! And if you don't want to enable the SAFE Select features, simply bind the receiver normally and only AS3X will be active.

Smart Technology The exclusive Spektrum™ Avian™ Smart ESC provides a variety of real-time power system related telemetry data including motor RPM, current draw, overall flight battery voltage and more via compatible receivers (including the AR637TA installed in the BNF® Basic version) and Spektrum AirWare™ equipped transmitters (including the DX6e and 8e, DX6 G2/G3 and 8 G2, the DX9, the NX6, 8 and 10, the iX12, iX20 and others) while you fly. It will even show individual cell voltages, temperature of the flight pack and other data when using Spektrum Smart LiPo batteries. Plus, optional-use motor reversing offers special ground handling and other capabilities (compatible Smart receiver and 7+ channel transmitter required for reversing).

Versatile Power System The factory-installed Spektrum™ Avian™ 60-amp Smart ESC and high-power brushless outrunner motor are compatible with a wide range of batteries. Install a 4S battery for slow and smooth scale flying, a 5S battery for added power, or a 6S battery to deliver far-better-than-scale vertical performance. Best of all you can install a 3200mAh battery to keep the weight and wing loading down, a 5000mAh battery for a great balance of performance and handling, or up to a 7000mAh battery to achieve long flight times up to 10-15+ minutes.

Versatile Gear Options The Cessna 150T 2.1m has been modified to accept and includes taildragger configuration landing gear with a steerable tailwheel. The main gear is equipped with oversized, tundra-style tires to better soak up the bumps of rough surfaces and provide excellent prop clearance. Or you can move the main gear back and install the original steerable nose wheel assembly (sold separately) if you prefer a tricycle landing gear configuration. And in either configuration you can install the original version wheels/tires, with or without wheel pants, depending on the look and capabilities you prefer! You can even install optional DU-BRO skis to fly off snow, or the optional float and wire mounting set to fly from water.

LED Lights and Flaps Like the original, the Cessna 150T 2.1m comes with realistic-looking LED landing, navigation and strobe lights that are factory-installed and powered from the flight battery. It’s also equipped with functional and very effective flaps for shorter takeoffs and landings.

Convenient Assembly The two-piece wing is secured with thumbscrews so no tools are required for field assembly/disassembly, and along with the hands-free connection system, makes storage and transport as easy and convenient as possible. Best of all, you can have the Cessna 150T 2.1m ready to fly in about the time it takes to charge a battery!

Durable Precision Composite-reinforced, hollow-core construction with EPO material results in a lightweight yet durable airframe that offers incredible handling and performance. Plus, factory-installed metal-geared servos all around deliver crisp and precise control.

Bind-N-Fly® Completion Level Advantage (BNF Basic version only) Already own a Spektrum™ transmitter? Bind-N-Fly (BNF) aircraft make getting into the air quickly and with the best control experience possible easier than ever. They come out of the box with the power system, servos and a Spektrum 2.4GHz receiver installed so all you need to do is bind the receiver to a compatible transmitter, finish any final assembly and fly!

The Bind-N-Fly Basic model is equipped with a Spektrum 2.4GHz DSMX® receiver featuring AS3X® (Artificial Stabilization–3-aXis) technology that works behind the scenes to smooth out the effects of wind and turbulence so you enjoy a sense of stability and precision that makes it feel like you're flying an even larger, expertly tuned aircraft.

If this is your first model of its type, or you want an extra margin of safety while familiarizing yourself with the airplane, you can enable the optional-use SAFE® Select flight envelope protection technology built into the receiver. No complex programming is required. Simply change up the binding sequence as directed in the manual.

With SAFE Select enabled, you get:

Pitch and Bank Angle Limits - These envelope limits keep the airplane from rolling or pitching upside down. They also prevent excessive climb or dive angles.

Automatic Self-Leveling - The airplane instantly returns to and holds level flight when the sticks are released and in the center position. It’s also helpful for keeping the wings level during takeoffs/launches and landings.

Easy Switch Assignment—No Complex Programming Required - The simple procedure for assigning a transmitter switch to turn SAFE Select features on and off doesn't require any complex programming and takes just a few seconds.

If you don’t want to enable the SAFE Select features, just bind the receiver normally and it will function like a standard AS3X receiver.

Plug-N-Play® Completion Level The Plug-N-Play® (PNP) version comes out of the box with a factory-installed power system and servos that are ready to connect to the compatible receiver of your choice (sold separately), plus the transmitter and battery you provide (also sold separately). Simply install the receiver, finish any final assembly, and fly!

Thread OP
Some additional notes (including my personal opinions/thoughts!):

• This is one of my all-time favorite E-flite models! In fact, I've been flying RC for 30 years now, have flown hundreds of models in that time, and this is one of my top 5 -- maybe even top 3 -- favorite models It flies AMAZING!! Slow, fast, scale, aerobatic...it truly has a "mild to wild" flight envelope! Also, unlike most other giant-scale models, it's super easy to store, transport and assemble/disassemble at the field due to the hands-free connections and a single thumbscrew to secure each wing panel (and one pin to secure each strut) It's convenient and practical!!!

• These will be in stock and shipping in the US late next week, and in the EU a week or two after that!

• The Carbon-Z Cessna 150T 2.1m is available in a PNP version (EFL12775) priced at $469.99 and a BNF Basic version (EFL12750) priced at $499.99 in the US.

• Nope, it doesn't have clear windows! Contrary to what some may believe and insist, clear windows add complexity, weight and cost. The DRACO 2.0m is smaller overall yet costs considerably more due to the clear windows (and some other features). And no, we could not have added clear windows to this updated version even if we wanted to (it would have required all new tooling...that plus the added cost to produce and install the windows would have likely resulted in it selling for another $100 more than it does now and most people don't need those windows/want to pay that much for them).

• Some people complained about the price of this model before....e.g. "I'd never pay $400 for a foam model!" That's too bad, because it was an AMAZING value at that price! It would cost you 2-4 times that to put together a similar sized wood or composite model. Now, due to recent material, component, labor, shipping and other cost increases it's $100 more....and still worth EVERY penny (IMO)!! Some may not agree...yet they've likely never owned, flown or even seen one of these in person. That's fine, and they're welcome to their opinion of course, but simply put...this model is much larger, far more capable and even more enjoyable to fly than pretty much any model that sells for even $100-$200 less. It's not for everyone, and that's ok...no model ever is. But there's no reason to complain about the price if you never plan on owning one, have never flown one or even seen one in person. If the factory could afford to produce it, and we could afford to sell it, for less we would...but unfortunately that's simply not possible

The most significant changes were made to the fuselage...primarily for mounting the main gear (and to support the tail wheel). You can see much of that in detail in the photos of the new replacement fuselage for the "T" here: https://www.horizonhobby.com/product.../EFL12751.html

It's possible to modify an original version CZ Cessna to install taildragger gear...but it's a LOT of work so most would never be interested in doing that. It's also possible to convert one using the new fuselage and gear parts for the "T", but it's not necessarily practical when you add up the cost of those parts (total cost will be around $150 or so...plus it will take a fair bit of time and effort to move all the electronics and other parts to the new fuselage). That in mind, I'd suggest anyone who has a CZ Cessna now but prefers the taildragger gear....

...should keep that one and buy this one too (haha)!! Or, worst case, sell that one and buy this one instead

All out of icing sugar
Definitely looks like a lot of improvements in all the right areas

My only problem is that as much as I'd like this one I already have DRACO and the 2.1m CZ Cub SS. I'm running out of places to put these awesome planes HH keeps releasing.
I think my only chance of owning one of these would be if Horizon wanted to gift me one to review and video. But my videos are just raw unedited hat cam, not exactly what I think they're looking for.

Jason, I'm guessing it continues on with the BL50?
Has Horizon talked to whoever supplies the bearings for that motor? Mine were noisy after 6 flights in my Cub. I replaced the bearings and the motor is still running strong. Seems like most issues people have with the BL50 start out as bad bearings, and if the owner doesn't catch it then the can ends up hitting the rotor causing permanent damage.
It's a good strong motor but seems to have a little more reliability issues than some others (still a small failure rate overall I'm sure, but mine was one so it's a concern for me).

I would have preferred an 80A ESC as well but that's just me knowing the 60A is being worked pretty hard in these large planes and I would probably end up installing a Power60 eventually.

Are those 5 inch tires?

Love the gear options
Love that it has lights (wish the Cub had)
Wing attachment looks awesome

I hope it sells well, it looks great.
Hopefully my trainee buys one so I get a chance to fly it
He wants to rush forward into EDF's though, it's getting harder to hold him back

Ohhhh my.......this is close to perfect now. That front wheel was a real problem. Probably one of the best flying airplanes HH has come out with, IMO. So much fun to fly! I'm in.

It's great to see one of the best-flying airplanes Horizon's ever made get an update! I was worried she'd get discontinued.

If I didn't already have 2 I'd be all over it. Hands down one of my favorite planes!

I just want the taildragger parts for my Cessna. I have the floats and it is the best float plane I own.

I made leading edge slats on mine and it slowed down and floated like nothing I've seen considering it's size. Used the slats from the Timber.
