FTCA Update - 8/1/2021

Flite Test Community Association (FTCA) is designed to be the hub where the people identifying with the community can rally together to promote the future of model aviation.

From the FTCA...

Recovered and ready to fly again after Flite Fest!

Flite Fest 2021 was a huge success, making the hours of preparation worth it. We were able to experience a portion of our community who braved the elements to enjoy some of the greatest moments ever at Flite Fest. The event also had an epic close as the FTCA Kraken flown by our president, Josh Bixler, was mortally wounded in combat and went down in flames (Flite Test YouTube). Canít wait to see what happens next year at our events!

This past Monday was the deadline for the comment period for the FAAís Draft Advisory Circular (AC) 91-57C.

In this draft a lot of recommendations for how to control flight in the hobby were addressed. Along with these recommendations there were also those for future CBOís (Community-Based Organizations). As important as the draft recommendations for the control of flight are to the hobby, the recommendations that were set forth for future CBOís are equally important to the future of the hobby. We must understand that CBOís are going to be the vehicles recognized by the FAA that groups must identify with in order to apply to be a FRIA (FAA Recognized Identification Area).Granted this is not law yet, but we must be thinking proactively about the future of our hobby. UPCOMING EVENTS

This weekend at Edgewater we will be hosting the Flyiní Circus. This event will begin on Friday Aug. 13th at 3:00 PM and will end on Sunday Aug. 15th at 3:00 PM. The idea is to showcase the monster planes and all the crazy contraptions that you the community have built. There will be open flying and also a combat or two that everyone can enjoy. Two main developments to be aware of:

The official website domain for the FTCA is going to be changing soon to www.hopeforthehobby.com. Make sure you keep your browsers up to date and share it with your family and friends when it goes live (which will be soon).

Josh and Lee are planning on beginning a podcast that talks about life around the FT scene and also whatís happening in the community. They have been talking about rolling up their sleeves and really getting deep into what has been the true motivation behind everything FT for a long time. Along the way stories and details about their lives together will be revealed. Stay tuned for the launch!

Recently Iíve been watching the TV show ďAloneĒ on the History Channel. As Iím watching it, it reminds me how important it is to be in community with others. This is important to us in the hobby as well, and the FTCA was created to be a vehicle to bring people together from all walks of life through the common interest of flight.

Hereís the challenge for you: if you havenít connected with someone this summer through flight, get out there and do it. Build a plane, crash a plane, or just talk about what planes you like! Iím sure you all can do one of these few things. If we want our hobby to continue to grow and have a voice in society and government, we need more of us to expand our horizons and get more people involved in the hobby! Fly safe, crash safer!
