Swiss J-3 Piper Cub EPO 1400mm

This version of the popular Piper J-3 Cub is in a striking new Swiss color scheme which is a must for all scale pilots. This color scheme uses a lot less paint so there is a bit of a saving in weight which further reduces the already low wing loading. The attention to detail makes it an extremely realistic model, and it comes with a nice, generous size 1400mm wingspan. Like all Cub's with its large wingspan, and stable flying characteristics it is very easy to fly, perfect for low-hour pilots and experts alike. The Swiss Cub also has a new all-metal landing gear which is virtually indestructible, this will survive the hardest of landings. Further weight saving has been achieved by the removal of the metal tail bracing wires, these have been replaced with scale-looking, easy to fit, lightweight elasticated white shock chord.

H-King Swiss Cub MAIDEN SHAKEDOWN Flight! HobbyKing 1400mm (6 min 42 sec)

Putting the H-King Cub together is very simple with every component attached by screws, no glue is required except for some recommended reinforcement purposes. The 9g servos come pre-installed as well as the 45A ESC and powerful 3648-700KV brushless motor. The scale detail is exceptional with plastic injection molded parts used extensively throughout including the dummy engine, wing struts, molded glazing, and large “Cub” wheels. Practical features include the linked steerable tailwheel, large magnetic battery hatch, and the construction is from tough, lightweight, and easy to repair EPO foam.

It is a fantastic-looking model and its unique color scheme makes it look impressive in both the air and on the ground. The Swiss Cub is fitted with a very versatile power train, you can fly it on a 2700mAh 3S which will give you long, lazy scale flights, install a 2450mAh 3S LiHv for sport flying (this is our favorite set-up), or step up to a 2200mAh 4S for a Cub that comes alive with plenty of power for some crazy, stunt flying. All this is achieved using the same motor, ESC, and prop, nothing requires changing. When it comes to performance the choice is yours, but be rest assured, whatever power you choose you will be really pleased with the performance of the H-King Swiss J-3 Cub.

Very nice and tempting. I have a 1.3m cub so I will probably not jump.

It is a blue version of the FMS plane in red?

If HK built the big balsa cub in Army scheme instead of that Navy scheme I might jump. There are other army L4s if I had to.

It is a remake of the original Starmax green and yellow ones made many years ago with improved landing gear a clearer screen for FPV and a repaint
that makes it look like a new airframe.

I should bring all my Cubs to the flying field and compare them when the HK one arrives.

Personally, I won't be buying it.
While it looks nice and flies well, having the hatch underneath these planes means you need to put the plane on it's back in order to use both hands when inserting the battery and doing that on a bench top or other hard surface can cause damage to wing tips and vertical stab.

You can always put it on a stand and HK sells a really nice stand that I use to put together planes at the field.

Sure but means carrying more gear with you. A stand takes up as much space as another plane and those ones that come apart are a pain to put together and take apart.

An old pillow is a good substitute too and you can always rest your head on it between flights.........

I put my bottom feeders upside down on the ground and change batteries. No need for extra stuff. But a top feeder is always nicer.

I received the HK Swiss J3 Cub today and spent two hours putting it together. They made a few things more complicated by design which I'm not to happy about. Although the FMS J3 Cub wasn't the best to assemble it's way better designed than this HK version and it comes with floats.

Scale details is much better on the FMS. It flies great and I can't see the HK one being any better. But certainly I have to maiden it to make some sort of final judgement.

So far all wins for the FMS J3 Cub V4..

I did a few modifications. First I put wheel axle locking collar as suggested by the instructions. These should have been included as there's just to much play without them. Secondly it's a bad design choice to make a scale RC plane without a pilot so I put one in. This should also have been included. Thirdly the wire braces for the stabilizer are mean to only be tied but it looks really unscale doing that so I took some springs and made a much better looking solution.

I'll try do find a better spinner nut as wheel because the bare black nut isn't to pretty.

The weather is bad these next days so maiden have to wait. Then I'll do both 3s and 4s 2200mAh.

Good job I had to add the same shaft collars on the axles as well. I agree should have been included in kit ESPECIALLY when they recommend them in the manual lolol. I flew the plane without them and my god the wheels just move around to much especially during taxi. I was having ground tracking issues on hard surface. Overall I love the plane. It flies so good on 3s and on 4s it’s an entirely different plane as expected. Does almost anything you want on high rates and 4s. So good!!
