Quick build for OS MAX 10FP

Hello, I'm looking for a recommendation. hopefully someone can help out

My friend who has also been my instructor and a full scale pilot just found a couple of OS MAX 10FP stashed away in his old inventory. (I think this motor fits in the 1/2A class but not 100% sure) I'm looking to build 2 planes to put these motors in, something that builds quick and is fun to fly. Its summer time and we rather be flying and not building, so a quick build is in order this time of year

Back in the 80's he had one of the motors in a plane called the Pattern Bat by direct connection. He says this plane was very fun to fly and went together in couple evenings. Unfortunately that plane isn't available any more and I can't track down the plans. I've also been looking at the Kombat Kapers plan on Outerzone. (oz7300) I'm not sure that is a good fit because as the airfoil looks to thin to stuff a battery, servos, and receiver into.

thanks for any help provided.

The "Kombat Kapers" looks like a CL plane, are you flying CL or RC?

1. Sig Wonder

2. Alley Cat https://outerzone.co.uk/plan_details.asp?ID=9992

3. Cherry Bomb https://outerzone.co.uk/plan_details.asp?ID=6802 (Eureka sells a foam wing)

Thanks for the reply's. I think I settled in on the Samurai (oz12547). I'll be flying RC so the plan will need to be modified to have ailerons. it still looks like a pretty simple build with no fuselage, flat wing and only 1 wing rib to make a pattern for.

any clue how a plane like that flies with no dihedral angle?

Also, I really like the Alley Cat but not sure I can build that over a weekend. that might be a late winter build just before spring.

Wow, I'd lengthen the fuse, enlarge the elevator (and probably split it for stab/elevator) and ADD A FIN!

Here's a better idea: https://outerzone.co.uk/plan_details.asp?ID=12538

I did a tag matrix search on outerzone that would come up with some good results applicable to your engine. https://outerzone.co.uk/advanced/tag...=0&S1=37&S2=44

Lots of cool planes on that list.

thanks for the additional ideas. Just speaking with my friend about the samurai, he also said the rear stab is much to small. I also picked up a 2 oz tank to get an idea of what fits and the tank is too large. the plans call for a bladder but I got no clue what that is.

The weekend wonder looks like a good fit though. I would do a built up wing with balsa ribs vs the foam core.

The samurai is a CL combat plane (!), these have almost nothing in common with RC planes....
(they rely on a strong line tension and never "fly on the wing")

I would recommend a "Stick" style plane. These are great sport planes, quick and agile while still handling great at lower speeds. With a box fuselage and straight wing (no dihedral) they are also quick to build.

Here is a drawing of one that is designed around .10 engines, the "Sting"; https://aerofred.com/details.php?image_id=99479
(the description is misleading on that site, it is designed for .10 engines and for an entry-level "sport-pylon" class with design limitations in order to keep them simple and well flying)

I have both the "Sting" and another similar plane, the "ZIPP", equipped with an OS.10FP;

There ya go; and you can leave off the landing gear to make it even simpler.
