Not looking to make it fly. Just be enough speed to have fun. The TFL princess runs on a 1650 kv motor on 4s. So hoping to be in the ballpark with 3. Can always tune it down if need be. Water cooling added just because. Better to have and not need then need and not have I figure.

Latitudes vs Attitudes
Bob Gaito's Avatar
That boat is going to run like its on Red Bull!

1550 KV x 11.1= 17205 x 80% = 13764 RPM

Started shooting some white paint on her. Stopped in to the Depot and they had a new spray paint by Behr. Nice paint to spray. Left a nice smooth finish. Still have to do the waterline. Put order in with Dumas for a couple new shafts since I believe one is tweaked. New set of rudder arms as well. Should be ready for a shakedown run in the spring. See if these motors are to much.

Lots of work have gone into bringing this boat back so far. Hulls all painted and ready to reassemble. Cabin redo planned for after test run, unless I get bored and start it sooner.

Lot of water; some gets thin

Having built several model sport fish boats & having run several real sport fishing machines produced by different manufacturers I’ll offer a few comments. In no way are they intended as criticisms.
First, nice save of the boat; when finished you will have a model to be proud of. IMHO, you are running well above scale speed. Unless you were looking for speed it detracts from the running appearance. Sport fish boats cruise somewhere between 15 to 25 knots. True, there are some that are a bit faster but the fuel consumption becomes prohibitive.
That said, the trend is away from the twin screw inboard boats I ran to large center consoles with multiple outboards. I know they run much faster than the range I described. The hull form of those boats are designed for speed and are quite different from the old inboard battle wagons.
I think you will be very satisfied with a slower top end speed. Less roll in the turns & a more realistic attitude in the water.
Keep posting photos. Never enough sport fish builds.

Yeah Chum. I know shes running a little fast. And shes only on 2s. I think I'm going to tune it down a bit with the radio and set it up so the speed will be there with a switch flip when I want it. As it was running around the lake Sunday though I was hoping whoever built it was looking down and smiling to see his boat with some new life. Now that its running I want to get the cabin redone. In the meantime we have a friend who comes out and photographs are boats when we are running. She hasn't finished them all yet but she sent me this one so far.

Sort of what I was saying about running attitude. Detuning through the radio is a good approach.
