Simple Cheap J-250 Pusher- Build Thread & Free Plans
Over the last few months to my surprise the most popular plane on my website has been this little J-250 powered pusher design. That prompted this build thread.
A little history- Last fall I wanted something that was quick to build for using in combat so I came up with this design. They were great fun. Eventually I also taught two people how to fly using them since they are stable and durable. I've built about 10 of these now, in slightly different versions. It wont 3D and it's not a rocket, but it's a simple, quick, fun to fly little parkflyer. Free plans are on my website www.pinkfoamplanes.com/cp.html There's AutoCad and PDF versions on there now. The build thread will follow- |

Cut two fuselage sides from fanfold foam.

Here's the tricky part- cut out the wing panels. Feel free to make the wingtips rounded or any other minor changes to the wings- it probably wont affect flight characteristics at all. Now get a mailing tube or something round to bend them on, then heat them up with a heat gun and bend a nice airfoil into the wing panels. You can use the top of the fuselage as a guide.
Once the wing panels are curved nicely you're almost done. |

Glue them together. Put a soda can under one wingtip for dihedral. You'll have to carve a little bit of the wing root to make them join nicely.

Build yourself two of these, they will help for the next step. These are really complicated..

Put one of those can towers under each wingtip in this step.
Glue the wings to the fuselage. |

Cut two little braces from fanfold foam. Then glue these in under the wing.

glue in your stabilizer, then hinge the moving parts with clear tape

Glue your motor on to the top of the wing. You might need to glue in some shims to get it level.
The second picture shows the location of the battery. The idea of this plane is to use old equipment that you dont use anymore, that's why I'm using an old brushed motor and a Gen 1 lipo. I usually use 8 cell nimh batteries for combat just in case they happen to hit the ground.. |
