Have a look: The original gears are out of wood+resin. Then in painting some diluted color was pouring over....I have not paid attention.
The colors have a property one can use for weathering: Strong dilution gives shadows and halos. In case of the used grey one this results in an effect like dried salty water
A lucky accident then !

One thing I will come back to in the build of the model: the outboard, the Hansen Sea Cow!!

And the rigging/mast things
Pulleys etc were put on old age, used, but well maintained I would call it
Not as, actually far away from Tim B' s skills, but I tried....

Then assembled

The parts look Great, well done on the weathering ~

You are lucky to have those pullies, many RB boat fittings are not available recently...

Yea, that was a lucky punch to buy them on a modelexhibition some years ago. Theme: They look good and you never know, if they could be of use later..

Lights on the mast

The mast also has some functional lights on: Navigationlights (fore and back), trawler lights and the lights for the deck backwards.
These are high-voltage LED's (support up to 19V without resistor etc.), 3mm cylinders. Supply comes from fine wires in the mast and adhesive copper foil outside. One can directly solder on this.
The lights themselves are from Aeronaut: They have a fine detailled glas and metal borders for the bottom/top and the quadrants can be set nicely.

Then a test on the workbench: the lights were too bright in my view, only the decklighting was ok.
So I have put additional constant current supplies in, they deliver max 10mA and so the LED's will be dimmed.

Nice touch !

I have always been too lazy to put lights on a model...

Stein Becks Book "The Logs of the Sea of Cortez"

This is a great build. Check out steinbeck's book, "The logs of the Sea of Cortez". https://www.secondsale.com/p/the-log...CABEgLqQvD_BwE It adds a great adventure to the Boat you are building. This book was an inspiration for me to visit Baja and many of the small fishing villages that were discussed in the book by Steinbeck. La Paz, Loreto, and many other along the trip. The trips started in monterey Bay, travels down the California coast, around the tip of Baja and up to the top of the sea of Cortez.

Well....
The cabin was rather "nude"
Some spray putty was put on and....... defects.....sanding was necessary ( I admit, that I don't like this step in modelboat building, but nessary!!!)
The funnel is already painted and the symbol is on

And then the stanchions plus railing was on the lsit "to do"

And the handrails along the cabin.

All made of brass and my "American Beauty" was coming into duty! (No......not what some of you might think......my wife is Italian!)
Soldering with 0.3 mm solder works perfectly fine for these tiny conjunctions!

And then some additions like the ladders
