Hoellein Innovation (sub 250 gr)
Hello,
Two pals and I are building 3 Innovations motor gliders. The main motivation is to have a nice model that is under 250 gr and therefore not affect by the new RC rules https://www.hoelleinshop.com/planes-...9301&c=40&p=40 I will keep you informed on the flight testing. So far a very enjoyable build We are all using the recommended motor and prop and the model was designed around them Cheers Joao |

Interesting. The price is certainly attractive although the design is now 5 years old. I think that there are more powerful motors both smaller and lighter now that could be used to good effect. I’m playing with some 1507 & 1806 drone motors on 2S & 3S with really good results. The leap in technology is outstanding, making things we only dreamed about a few years ago possible now.
Will follow your build with interest. Gruner turn out nice kits from what I’ve seen of PuRES and Slite |

Thank you for the tips on motors. The advantage of using the recommended one is that the firewall already has holes made for that motor and the balsa block of the nose already a hole adequate for that motor.

Almost finished.
The cover was done in Oralight as recommended to save weight https://www.oracover.de/film/oralight/1 The goal of sub 250g will be achieved with a nice margin Cheers |

Look's Great, I have a Hoellein Innovation sitting under my desk. I bought it before covid hit us. It sure is a Beautiful kit
And yep I ordered it with the power package as well. When I build I may very well look into one of the newer motors that were mentioned above. As I'm not to impressed with the folding spinner set-up, Even tho I did order more then one. That's going to be the weak link on this plane. But I'm positive that I can overcome that issue with one of these new mini quad motors with a hollow 5mm shaft, I did find a small 5mm bore folding spinner that should do the job and still keep the weight down. I found a build log here https://www.rc-network.de/threads/in...%BCner.625278/This will be a summer build when the Heat is On. Cheers and keep us updated! |

If you are looking for sub 250g models, particularly gliders, can I recommend the J&H Aerospace Micro Bird of Time. This kit is available as a pure glider or as a motor glider. The pure glider should weigh about 100g, has a wing span of 48" (approx 1200mm). Here is my latest video trying it on hi-start launching but I have a few videos including the building.

I did yesterday the first flights with my yellow Innovation ( I built the red and white for a friend) and I am very well impressed with the model. With the recommended battery and propeller she climbs at around 70 degrees and fast. Glides really well, now I am going to move the CG just a little backwards to try to minimize the sink in turns No video so far as I was alone at the field, but very soon I hope to post one I don´t think there is any problem with the recommended folding spinner set-up. Yes, it does look fragile but I had one slightly larger for many years on a speed 400 Mini Ellipse and never had a problem. Go and build it, you will like it ..so light, mine weight 248 gr with the batteryCheers Joao |

I do like the look of the Innovation and may have to get one built for the autumn or spring next year. It's funny how so many people are taking an interest in "micro" models all of a sudden.

Indeed, these new drone rules are affecting all of us, careful RC flyer that never had problems before.
Yesterday did two more nice flight with my yellow bird, and noticed a good behaviour even with some wind. Moved the battery 5 mm back and the flight behaviour improved still. Got to try move it back a little more new session Cheers |

Both come in under the 250g limit, so you can pretty much fly them anywhere. The new "drone" related legislation, the reduction in flying fields in many countries and the availability of modern micro radio gear and light weight lipos has undoubtedly caused the uptake in micro/mini models. |

Your's truly here ( I was the cameraman in the above clip) , filmed by my wife with her cellphone. This clip can be useful as it depicts well the power available with the recommended items: plenty !
Flown near a local park taking advantage of the sub 250 gr weight
Cheers Joao |
